Do animal companions take up a Party Slot?
Recently bought this game and started as a Calvalier. My horse icon is filling a party slot. Do Animal Companions require that you take one less party member, in order to take the animal companion?

The horse doen't fill up a slot. But adds a new one. The party roster can be navigated.

BTW a quick tip in case you hadn't noticed yet (I didn't for some time) - you only get six slots for companion portraits bottom of screen so your pets are hidden by default off to the right. If you hover the mouse over the portrait bar and use the scroll wheel it scrolls it left and right for you. Super useful.
