I have played enough RPG to have a decent guess at what going around without the need of the aeon's eyes (and with them it's even easier)
I mean :
"village magically/miraculously protected from demons"
" no kids running around in the village"
" dolls hung in trees, they have no magicall properties whatsoever though"
and that was before act 3 and the talk of firstborns and the confirmation that the dolls are for mourning their deaths.
anyone with half a braincell that does some RPG experience can see the classic scheme here ....
Villagers are clearly sacrificing kids, in this case firstborns I guess, to an entity for protection. And this is obvious since the first meeting and it is already confirmed in act 3 tbh. Having to wait until act 5 to deal with it seems weird
Sure, you've figured out that something isn't right, but until the villagers are willing to share more, you don't have anything more to go on. Life is like that sometimes.
