Starting the game and overloaded with quests
Haven't left the tavern yet so I'm right at the start, but I already have 10 quests of stuff to do.

Is this normal for this game? For me, this is bad. I'm neither invested nor interested in these quests now. I don't know who gave them or what is going on anymore. It's just quest overload. I'd prefer to have just the main quest and then one or two side quests to start off so I can get into the game and actually get invested. Having a shopping list of ♥♥♥♥ to do is not "fun".

Is this going to improve, or will I have a list of chores every step I take? Not that it will make me stop playing or anything, just want to know what I'm getting into.

For some reason the default is to show completed quests. You may be seeing more quests then you actually have. I would uncheck that box.

You can tackle quests whenever you like. The Journal will show you a notification if said quests are limited to your current act. In that case, proceeding to the next act without completing them will automatically fail said quests. But that's about it. There aren't really time sensitive quests in WotR in the sense of "this quest fails in X days, Y hours and Z minutes".

You can also toggle quests off, or minimize them to make the list appear less verbose. And I agree with Raikon on hiding all completed quests for better readability.

As for your question if things will go "better"... No. The game will continue to update your journal for you. And you have to keep track on it while reading its entries. Just like with pretty much any kind of cRPG out there.

Nah that's without the completed quests. It was on by default you're right, but I unchecked it. So it's 10 quests and I didn't even go anywhere yet.

Problem is not with how it's presented but more in terms of pacing. If I already have 10 quests before I leave a small tavern what can I expect out there? And how will I ever feel invested or immersed in this? I already don't care about these quests now... I'm just getting a flashback from Skyrim that filled the questlog faster than you could clear it. More is not better. In the end I will end up doing quests without knowing what the F is going on. Meeting and NPC: "oh you're here finally, let's do this". Ehm... sure, I'm here, who are you and what are we doing? I'm in the middle of something else. I play a lot of games and this kind of pacing is worrisome. It's much better to have less things to do and just get invested in them, rather than having a shopping list of chores that mean nothing to me. So no, this is not like any other crpg. Only poorly paced crpg's do this.

Than this kind of game is not for you I guess. You should look out for a more streamlined rpg with a clear path to follow.

Or just ignore the quest-log and do whatever you want, this isn't a MMORPG

The tavern is your hub for act 1. It follows that a bulk of the quests for this particular act will be gained here from talking to NPC's. Nothing strange about it, nor do I categorize this as poor pacing. But you do you.

I agree. Besides - a lot of these quests are rather short and combined with areas you have to go to anyway.

This game is not for me? Hahaha. I understand that you may be unable to discuss the topic, but don't throw nonsense my way and act as if you know me. Surprise! You do not. Weird right?

I think I will just pick one thing and go do that. And then follow up with something else. I just wanted to know if the game's quest pacing was poor so I know what I'm getting into and it seems that's what it is. I will treat it as such.

You will usually have about 10-15 quests live at any one time most especially at the beginning of an act. Obviously the number gets reduced as you approach the end of an act - i.e. you've done everything. The quests drive the story and it is a complex, multi-threaded story. That's why there are so many quests.

You should read the quests logs through carefully. It will give you an idea of what's going on, what is urgent and what isn't so urgent. They give an opportunity to play each act out as a mini open world type thing to some extent. They give you an ability to shape how the story unfolds to some extent. This is something most folks like.

From where you are now your quests are gold dust because you want to accumulate XP as quickly as possible to level up in preparation for a coming event you can't avoid. These quests provide vastly more XP than monsters at this stage of the game, like 10-20x more, although that changes later game. So do them whilst expending as little time and resources as possible, i.e. don't fight anything you don't have to for for now, is my advice. Don't worry, you'll have more than enough to fight to get the quests done. You can come back for the remaining monsters later at your leisure.

To start with help Woljif with his quest (there is a very nice reward for this) and then do what Anevia suggests - go to Market Square.

Thanks. I was actually planning to do his quest first. It's the one that stuck with me the most. I don't even remember who gave me the other quests so I'll just have to take it slow.

Why do you say fight as little as possible? Is there a timed event coming? I've been running around the tavern for a long time. Is that wasting time too? I thought this game didn't have any timed quests, only quests that are linked to acts. Or am I not understanding you correctly?

No timed quests, but events can happen that aren't tied to quests and can affect your characters if you take too long doing some things.

Ok, but am I wasting time just looking around and should I hurry up and complete some quests? Or is the time at the tavern not counted? Don't spoil anything, but just wondering at which pace I should play.

It's on the order of wasting time for approximately 4 in-game days or 3 rests iirc. 3 rests for sure, don't remember the exact day count though. At least for Act 1's timed event.

Ok I'll keep that in mind. I already turned off suggested resting time. It was defaulting to 2 days!

Time passes when you move across the global map, meaning once you leave the tavern through its gates. Or via resting in either the tavern or via camping. Just walking on a local map has little influence on it.
