EDIT: Forgot about Spirit Shaman
Later acts also have companions. And Lich will get its own set of dead companions down its mythic path starting from act 3.
https://pathfinderwrathoftherighteous.wiki.fextralife.com/Companions
Paladin - melee STR, longsword+shield
Spirit Shaman - melee DEX, rapier+buckler
Zen Archer or Fighter - both are archers
Act1 (lvl3-5)
Eldritch Scroundel (Rogue caster) - melee Dex, dual-wielding daggers
Scroll Savant (Wizard) - INT, illusion specialist
Stigmatized Witch - CHA spontaneous caster, focused on rays
Oracle - CHA spontaneous caster, healing/buffs
Act2(lvl5-8/9)
Cleric of Seranae - Luck+Good Domain, melee STR focus, glaive
Armiger(Fighter)+Hellknight - melee Dex, uses Double Hooked Hammer (dualwield)
Espionage Expert(Ranger) - high stats, CHA casting, archer. Can be recruited either in act 2 or in act 3.
Act 3

Act 5

+ Lich specific companions.
Good summary but am I blind as a bat or did you miss Nenio here:
Scroll Savant (lvl3/5) - focused on Illusion. Arguably (i.e. IMHO) the strongest companion in the game after about lvl 7,
@OP: as you will see from the list the big hole in the roster is a true badass DPS melee. Arguably (and again IMHO) playing a badass 2H DPS melee (e.g. Sword Saint, Bloodrager Primalist, Mutation Warrior) makes the early game a lot easier.
But you absolutely don't have to play one of course. Mortisimal Gaming has a very good overview of all the classes and their archetypes with a summary of what's hot, what's not and what's just OK. It's a one hour watch but I think it's very helpful in narrowing down your choices:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQf8shmW08E&t=7s
He's also done a "Five to play" and a "Five to avoid" series, much shorter watches:

Espionage expert is act 2 or act 3 though.
All archers are complicated now that I think about it. Different time, conditions to recruit etc.
In a CRPG his entire existence is a cruel joke played by the uncaring gods at Owlcat.
Well, not quite. You can get her during the attack on Drezen if you do a moderately well-hidden puzzle earlier, which means you'll have her for an hour or two before Act 3 starts (and the slayer becomes available).
