Echo of Deskari

(Spoilers) So, I got locked out of the ascension ending because instead of Deskari's Echo, Deskari himself showed up before the fight with Areelu. I fixed it with Toybox but I have no idea what causes him to show up instead of his echo and cannot find any info on it either. Does anyone know what I did wrong?

I'm not sure, but I think you might not have actually killed Deskari in Iz. There are 2 ways the fight with Deskari can end -- you can either kill him (he falls in the pit), or you can survive for a number of rounds without killing him which will cause him to fly away. In order for the secret ending to trigger he needs to be dead (i.e, in a special state demon lords go into where they are confined to their realm for 1 year and if they are killed again in that year, they die forever).

I believe it happens if you take too long to kill Deskari in Iz. Instead of dying he flees and you have to fight him in place of his Echo.

He did fall into the pit but I don't think I actually killed him. Halfway through the fight I got a dialogue choice and picked the Trickster option. I threw something at him and down he went. I guess that might have been the choice which caused this.

That sounds like you did fulfill the requirement in Iz, so it's likely a bug.

As long as Deskari falls down instead of flying off into the sunset he will have died, which is a hard requirement for the secret ending.

I don't know if Trickster maybe has some differences there, but as you said that you saw the locust lord falling down, that requirement should have been met.

AFAIK only Legend is locked out from Ascension, but who knows... I can only confirm it for Lich and Demon myself.

As for the choice itself:

When you manage do fulfill the requirement in the Iz fight, i.e. deal enough damage to Deskari, then every class gets that final dialogue where your only choice is your Mythic Path answer.

Maybe you've missed the other hard requirement in Iz tho:
Did you make sure to go to the Stone Temple first to save the knowledge there, making sure that the Demon ♥♥♥♥♥ is actually properly dead, and then did you also recover the Crystal Key there?

The latter is also a hard requirement for the secret ending.

Yeah, I did have all the requirements in the Iz fight. I also went and got the crystal and glass key and did the draft researches after visiting the lab again. I convinced her of everything but when I told her about summoning the demon lords, I could only tell her about Baphomet because the Echo of Deskari was still alive.

Hm, weird one, that's definitely a bug unless Trickster Path were locked out from Secret Ending like Legend is... but that I can't say, you'd need to ask other Trickster players.

But my money remains on it being a bug, because you saw Deskari fall down in Iz, and that *is* him dying, as he literally is so weak that he can't fly anymore and thus falls to his death.

I'd report it via the ingame bug report tool for sure.

If you have savegames from before entering Iz, mebbe an autosave, you could try loading back to the past and try again... or just wait til end of the month when EE drops and do a new run to save yourself the frustration of having to do all of that content over again just for the off-chance that it might work this time.

You can ascend as Trickster. I've done it a few months ago.
