Groups of pets
Several times though WOTR and Kingmaker, I have run multiple pets with mad dogs, clerics, druids, and inquisitors all having a multitude of animals running around. If you have done so, what animals did you like or find good? I'm not so interested in numbers, just what worked and what just pissed you off? My thoughts:

I have run 3 elks in Kingmaker, and thought they did quite well. They were fast, multiple attacks, sturdy, and otherwise ok.

Mammoths in Kingmaker. Never again. 4 mammoths are noisy as hell and get in the way, every fight.

Dogs/Wolves in WOTR. 3 in one party so far. The tripping is excellent. A rogue's best friend. They aren't sabertooths, but they do pretty good damage. If only I wasn't running a bard, a rogue, and a wizard, 3 more would be sweet. Level 1-6, they were good. Post level 7, they have been amazing.

Smilodons in Kingmaker. 3. The damage was amazing, but they felt really lite in the behind, always going down. That was when I first started, before I realized I could buff them with mage armor though.

In short, so far, I like the elks and wolves best. I may have to redo the smilodon party and see how they work with increased knowledge of the game.

Just 4? Should have gone with 6 of them. I did that for the Kingmaker Nothing Left Behind achievement and got to a maximum I ventory of something like 29 tons.

I like Halfling riding Leopard. The Leopard is medium so doesn't get in the way and has sky high a/c and damage and with Fury's Fall and Tandem Trip is tripping fantastic.

My Cavalier rides a Saberkitty, Seelah a Pali-Pony (Regill shifted to Cavalier also and rides a Pony when filling in for Seelah) and Daeran snagged Nature for a trippy flippy woof-puppy. He doesn't ride it though, it acts as a forward scout selectively tripping mooks everywhere. Daeran feeds it assorted heads and Ember borrows it as a warm blankie during fireside chats with s'mores. When Sosiel starts subbing in for Daeren, I might give him a pet as well. Haven't decided who gets to ride the chunky dino yet - maybe Aru will find a use for it.

I've had good success with dogs. My main party has 3 dogs , 1 wolf, 1 horse, and BIsmuth the Triceratops

Dogs are the best cause trip. :) Especially when you farm aoo's. Knock someone down and everyone close gets an attack when they stand up
(I mean others have trip too but they have highest strength of those that can trip I think)

My main's pet is a smilodon. Seelah has a horse. Woljif has an elk. Lann has a leopard. Camellia has a wolf. Daeran has the triceratops.

A lot of players sleep on raptor, but it’s actually a monstrous pet- maybe one can argue the best pet in wotr. Here is why

1) has a natural speed of 60. Mobility is king to avoid aoe hits.

2) it’s small meaning it won’t get in your way

2) comes with 17 dex, by giving it fencing grace, it is similar to having another two-weapon fighter rouge [can benefit from sneak attacks with feats at intellect 3]. Having a innate AC of 20 makes it a tank the hardest part of the game [act 1-2]

3) Because it’s dex based it benefits most from team work feats, and those feats can be double scaled from mythic beast and from the mythic trait that shares team work feats.

4) Having a high constitution [17] can help remove fortitude saves from the equation, and almost all will saves by giving it undead trait [for will saves].

Very strong companion

Why would you pick the raptor over the leopard? Just for the +10 speed?
Raikon Sep 10, 2022 @ 10:53am
Raptor has a lot of attacks, the most of any pets. Raptor also has highest charisma modifier. So a lich run he is quite the powerhouse.

I have tried a lot of the pets, I like most of them for different reasons.
Its easier to say which ones I dont like.

I dont like the centipede, it sucks.
I dont like the current Elk. It was bugged on beta, no extra attacks, and the gore didnt trip.
I think I tried riding the lizard once, and it said I couldnt. It was so long ago I cant really remember.

Wolves, dogs and leopards. Trip, trip, trip.

Don't all creatures with Gore also trip?
Justin Sellers Sep 10, 2022 @ 3:36pm
They fixed gore not tripping in the latest patch.

I wish the centipede was better. I feel like it needs something extra to make it a more viable option.

I have Wenduag as a Colluding Scoundrel with a centipede / aggressor and it feels lacking.

It gets extra skills, but I'd rather have more attacks... Maybe if the poison DC was raised or something?
