This is beyond horrible. I've spent a week rotating my camera to try to get somewhere. I've been following a walkthrough (because the game sucks about telling you what to do).
It said something about Socothbenoth. Never found him.
Went to arena. The walkthrough was nothing like what happened.
It said something about finding a succubus taking the southwest exit (from where?) to the Middle City. What exit. Never found anywhere to get to the Middle City.

Easy peasy. Each city district is connected via a guarded gate. Talking to the respective senior guards let's you access the elevator/platform. Alternatively you can scale the city walls as well if you have enough Mobility or Athletic skill points invested.

Socobenoth is only present if you're on the Trickster mythic path.

The arena has a lot of different ways to solve (and some of those depend on what mythic path you're on).

The entrance to the middle city is near where the upper level entrance of the tavern is. It's literally in the middle of the western edge of the map, if you open up your map. Look for a closed gate with NPCs labeled "guard" - talk to the senior guard. There's also a a way to climb up to the middle city via a series of athletics/mobility checks if you go south the from the gate as much as you can (just a bit past where Ember is trying to preach to demons about kindness).

Is there a walkthrough that actually tells you what to do. The one I'm following (neoseeker) doesn't tell you anything that is actually happening. It told me to talk to Chivarro and pay her 40,000g. Never happened. She's supposed to tell me about a place in the Upper city. Never happened. She told me to kill some guys in the lower city. Then the walkthrough says to go to the upper city. HOW do you do that. I've been up and down every portal

There's a number of Athletics and Mobility checks that allow you to climb up (Athletics) or down (Mobility) between levels of the city.

I do agree that it would be nice if the quest journal was a little more clear on where to go, especially in "story mode". I know there are a bunch of smarty mic smart muphins out there who like figuring things out, bully for you, I like my hand held just a bit more. Cheers!

Aha, Trickster. It does tell you that he's "atop the tallest tower". But that's a trick because you're naturally going to go and search the Upper City. In all reality, he's in the Middle City. Just above Dyunk(big fat pig demon slavemerchant). It's actually nice that it's done this way. It is a TRICKster, after all!

You basically have to do three quests to get the invitation. If you know what you do, that's doable pretty fast.

Still can't figure what to do next or how to get to the upper city

They still have no walkthroughs for Act V or VI - will they ever? But they have 'em for Act IV.

One big meta tip: the key to navigating Alush is you need to get portal keys to important places. Once you have these keys, you can just teleport there from any portal.

I hate the whole rotate the camera to go places stuff too. Hated it worst when I first had to deal with it. Got used to it in later playthrus. Never grew to love it.

Once you get into the Middle City brothel, 1000 Delights, it has an exit to the Upper City, BTW.

I'm not in Act 4 right now. What DC Athletics check are you attempting, and what does it say when you hover over the skill check result in the log?

hahahaa everyone hate the Abyss when they are in it for the first time its is totally annoying and confusing but after you spend 5 hours their you get the hang of it !

I think this walkthrough is the real problem here. Assuming you drop it, and... do stuff without it? You might enjoy the game a bit more.
