Through the Ashes DLC-Main Character question

Quick question for those who got the new DLC already: Can you create your own character, or is the main character that gnome with the hat in the trailer?

I'd have assumed I got to create my character until I saw that trailer. So want to manage my expectations.

Yes, but you have reduced character points to distribute in your attributes (DEX INT etc.) compared to main campaign - 15 against 25,
You are an anybody, not a mythic hero.

Another information that might interest you : you make your own character, but you also get to make 3 of your companions.

That I didn't expect. The store page made it sound like you just get two preset ones. So more like the Varnhold DLC from Kingmaker.

Two companion-like companions and three merc-like companions to be exact.

You create MC, then tiefling rogue joins you. Then little later 3 merc characters will be added to your party, you can create custom ones, or get pregenerated. Gnome will be last.

Also do not create any Equipment dependant characters (Like Sword Saint or Aldori Defender), at least if you do blind playthrough.
And you will finish game on lvl 4-5.

Made a wizard and its a pain in the behind.

Pet classes, Monk (beacuse they do not rely on weapon), Kinecist, Grenadier, Martial melee with Martial Artist background.

Do civilians even have classes generally? I thought being a citizen WAS their class. It sounds less like you play as an anybody and more like you play as an incompetent adventurer.

Usually, not really. Even though Commoner technically is a class. The survivors who travel with you also don't have a class per se. You have a violinist, a miller and a white collar worker. They're no use in battle whatsoever. The actual party members are either guard recruits, someone from Anevia's network or a travelling sorcerer.

At what point do you get to make the other characters? I have met the Gnome im in the graveyard, still have not had that option. Did i miss it?

Below the theatre, at the beginning of the catacombs is where you can find an crusade NPC with his recruits.

Yes.
After you get below the theatre, break the grate, there is camp with few people.

Avoid to make an aldori defender, no duelling sword before the chapter 4... and avoid any class that is rather powerless under the 5 first levels.
The DLC is very challenging but rather good.
