Deity Favored Weapon question
Having generally chosen Erastil for my deity on custom clerics in KM for access to longbows, I just started a new character rogue with the deity Shelyn for glaives. Upon finding my first glaive in the game, it shows it as unusable/red. Should I be getting proficiency from this deity selection? Do the weapon choices only work when selecting deity for divine classes? If that is the case it is not explained anywhere. The clerics seemed to work with the bows, and Tristian seemed to work fine with scimitars. If this really shouldn't be working I guess I will need to restart the game with martial proficiency, unless I can find a longspear and have it work until level 3.

Cleric, Warpriest, and Inquisitor (and maybe Divine Hunter?) are the only classes gain favored weapon proficiency, it's a perk of being a class with powers that come directly from worshiping their gods. In tabletop that comes with requiring close adhering to the diety's code and performing daily rituals, but are burdened with none of that here.

Don't know if glaive is covered by background traits, but you could look there if you want to reroll for your rogue. Or try a Cult Leader Warpriest for a full Divine Rogue theme.

That said, it also seemed to me like my warpriest merc was breaking that rule and sacred-ing stuff other than his deity's favored weapon(s), so dunno.
Warpriests can use the Sacred Weapon feature with weapons they have Weapon Focus in, too.

I think it only matters for warpriests, primarily. They are supposed to only be able to use Sacred Weapon on their deity's favored weapon(s) which they have automatic proficiency in.

That said, it also seemed to me like my warpriest merc was breaking that rule and sacred-ing stuff other than his deity's favored weapon(s), so dunno.

You can put Sacred Armor on anything, I think, even a cloth robe, or plate armor, whatever you want to wear (and can).
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Yeah I was thinking it had to be a religious thing. As many things as are described in this game, you would think that the tooltip would say something like "favored weapon for appropriate classes" or such. I think I can salvage this run if I can survive long enough to find a plain longspear to finish the shield maze with then pick martial weapon proficiencies at lvl 3 feat. My rogue is the start of a Master of All Trickster using cleaving reach. I found Cult Leader to work nicely on Lann after level 2. Thanks
