Charisma/Persuasion for main character
Hello,
how important is to have high charisma and persuasion for main character? I would like to my first playthrough as Druid + Angel mythic path and wisdom is primary stat. So my charisma will be very low. How important it is for story/decision etc? I would like to pass persuasion checks (I really love it in cRPGs).
So does my MC have to have high charisma or can I have some companion who has high charisma and it will work as well?
I know there is also background where I can use WIS for persuasion which seems to be fairly ok but if other characters can do it instead of MC, I would choose probably some different background.
Thanks a lot! :)

Not really. If you don't want to, you don't have to take it.

are there actually any benefits of MC who has high charisma and is able to do persuasion checks?

Only with charisma classes like oracle or witch for spells. If you want to not min max your hero and have more freedom dont go higher than core or you will strugle a lot if you dont optimize your build. Beside any role playing checks like dialogs will be made by person with that highest stat in your party. All dialog checks are calculated from your party and the one that has the highest stat makes a roll so you just focus on what benefits your hero combat wise.

There ARE some skill checks required for the "secret" ending, but I can't remember for the life of me whether any of that is a Persuasion check. It's mostly Knowledge / Lore checks.

Also Dazzling Display / Cornugon Smash etc are an option for CHA, but Persuade? Not really necessary.

Persuasion is not clear to me as well. This does affect spells as well ?

Only very few skillchecks can be made by MC alone. So persuation and trickery/disable device is no more a "must have"

Persuasion can enable you to talk yourself out of combat, in some situations, and in other interactions, it can persuade people to see your POV.

Really only your MC needs it; he's the one usually doing most of the talking for the party; persuasion checks unlike athletics or stealth is usually being checked during dialogue, and often in marked dialogue options like:

[Persuasion] Uncle Owlcat, wouldn't it be awesome to be able to use persuasion more often in this game?

I consider it a detriment that you have to too few opportunities to do so. Bad game design.

It may be a minority opinion, but I hold it. :steamhappy:

if you want a game from owlcat with a higher persuasion focus on mc try kingmaker, in that game it was necessary to even hit level 20

in dialogue it just uses whichever party member’s skill is highest in the group.

Main thing is you do want someone in your group to cover each skill, so depending on what skills your MC covers you might adjust the rest of your party accordingly (or the reverse, but usually i’d start with my MC build and figure out the rest of the party from there).

That's interesting. I did notice a lot of "map"/"encounter" skill checks were now checking the party member with the highest skill (not just the MC) but I didn't think that was true for dialogue, since it's usually your MC doing the talking for the party.

??????????????

Ehm, I am struggling to think of one single occasion in the game where the MC alone is selected for a persuasion check. Far as I know it always taken by the party member with the highest score.

In Kingmaker there were occasions when you were on your own and had to rely on you own stats, which was a damned nuisance 'cos you felt like you had to pump CHA and Pertsuasion just for those few occasions, but I don't think that is ever the case in WotR.

i think demon path act 3 has a nightmare with a intimidation check that only mc can do, but beside abit more exp its not really that important

Wait did no one mention (or I glossed over) just taking the background of acolyte to use wisdom instead of charisma for persuasion?

You can get away with having a party member do most persuasion checks though as mentioned

As a very high charisma character ull probabably be fine with at level persuasion and some items Most diplomacy stuff never goes past mid 30s.
