Game designed to constantly rotate the camera?
So a friend gifted me wotr for the holidays and I was very excited to play it but i have a few gripes. one of my major gripes is the camera. I feel like i have to rotate it CONSTANTLY to see anything. In Kingmaker, the world was made so that you did not have to turn the camera all the time to see what was going on. but in wotr things are made to be at angles you cant see from the default view and you have to manually turn the camera a lot. this would not be an issue if the camera controls could be swapped from mmb to rmb like a lot of people have already pointed out and that Q and E also dont feel great for turning it. if i have to turn it so dang often the let me choose how i do it????? personally i liked that in kingmaker i never had to turn the camera to see what the heck i was looking for.

I agree; I actually think it reduces the intentional design aspect when the camera is free. A lot of people like free/unlocked camera as a feature on paper, but in practice it means the artists and level designers can't make an area designed to be viewed a certain way, because they don't know where the player's camera angle will be. Leads to areas not looking as nice because they aren't fixed set pieces anymore.

And it's only camera rotation, not even full camera control. I keep wanting to adjust the camera angle, but of course it is not possible.

can't you use your mouse to rotate the camera

Where you HAVE to rotate the camera to shift buildings or bridges to get places, and then joyously have it pointing the wrong direction to go somewhere.

Some people like this. I don't. I mean, conceptually I get what they were aiming at (Abyss is chaotic), practically I wouldn't implement it this way.

The first time I went through, I was finally getting to understand camera control well by act 4, and then ... that. Sigh.

There is some Free Camera mod out there. People recommend it (esp. for Act 4). Haven't tried it.

I understand this.

Also the maps are very small in comparison to kingmaker. I mean astronomically tiny.

They pulled a dragon age o2 map style on us.

And praise devs for that. Because loading time was a major issue on Kingmaker even with SSD and I have no idea how people without it were able to play it.

AFAIK you should get a tooltip once arrived in Abyss with explanation of that mechanic - but devs screwed and you are not receiving it once disabled tutorials.

Loading times the same. It gets longer as the game progresses. It must be whatever engine they use or optimization.
Though i think they games mostly loading scripts enemy ai buffs and seconds and objects. I mean these arent giant textures.

I dunno why the game doesnt run tighter than it should. What i priase thr devs for ia the story and mechanics working out.. Tho whole classes are still broken.

I actually like chapter 4 alot.. But it seems to take a bit to even load into 10k nights harem whatever

Total dumb or weird choice by devs. Personally hate it but had to deal with it

yes, but you have to use the middle mouse button which is awful imo. the mouse i have has a weird mmb and clicking it does not feel good. especially when you have to hold it down and move the mouse.
