How do you get rid of some of these "permanent" effects?
I have one person who's permanently Sickened. Scrolls of Remove Sickness and Greater Restoration do nothing.
I have another with permanent Rain of Blood. And I can't get rid of it.

I keep getting these situations, where you get hit with things that don't seem to have any way to remove them. It's idiotic.

The Heal spell should remove the sickened condition. Removing Sickened is also an option for Paladin Mercies (chosen during level up).

Dispel Magic may work for some (haven't tested).

Did you try the "remove disease"? I think that's what worked for me, even though the description was "sickened" lol. The priest should sell the scroll. I could be wrong though, I'm not 100% sure.

I think you have a bug, Rain of Blood should never have a permanent duration. For sickened, you can try the treat affliction ability. You might also try sickening the character with one of your party member's abilities and seeing if that gets it to wear off. Often replacing a hostile effect with the same effect cast by your own party member helps to get rid of it, or at least makes it easier to succeed at the check to get rid of it.

If you're really stuck with an effect, respec the character and it will give them a clean slate

Yeah, I sometimes have to go through a bunch of spells to find something that works. Some effects just say "Use X to remove", which is fine (though you can still end up stuck with insane DC's that you can't beat, like 30+ DC's on baleful polymorph).
But some effects just don't say anything. Some are clearly a disease or sickness, but those scrolls don't always work. Sometimes Greater Restoration works, sometimes not. Sometimes Heal works, sometimes not.
I think the game's super buggy when it comes to clearing effects.

Rain of Blood isn't supposed to be permanent? Then that's definitely a bug.

Has the character Mythic ability that lets them downgrade debuff? I heard that is causing problems.

If the sickened person is Lann - that's OK, he becomes sickened in the upper city in Alyshinura, as there is a manor of Savamelekh, who makes him feel bad. It's story related and can't be dispelled, unless you finish his quest, which is Bad Blood, I think.

Also, mostly for the note, Angel is the best path in tems of buffs, he can either protect from the most of effects or remove them.

i thought rain of blood was permanent. Can dispell if i remember right by healing to full.
Deseases are annoying and are hard to remove , but they go away eventually even if u dont manage to dispell.

thats on lower difficulties like normal, core + they might actually go ahead till they kill you.
ythough the most effective way to cure it is with a heal check they made the DCs for dispelling them with remove disease prohibiting after daring. (CL 40 or stg)

Many "permanent" effects go away on resting. Not all -- curses, polymorphs, petrification, notable exceptions. Oh and being dead. The problem is the wording. "Permanent" doesn't always mean it lasts forever, just that it doesn't have a limited duration. You'd be shocked how much you can get rid of by resting. That said, yep, it doesn't get rid of everything.

Now, if it's a story related situation, as described above, or a bug, things might work differently. I can only tell you in most normal situations, resting does remove sickened or diseased.

i would switch on "remove all neg. status effects while resting" in the options menu. imo those perma sickness effects are just an unnecessary annoyance, and not much more :P
