It's the same one.
Don't take his stuff.
Too late. now he's all over the place. I'd guess using lightening or something other than fire would work. When I first entered Wintersun I took a whip. Is he hostile forever after that?
Yep
The spirit seem to target easier to hit party memeber (in my case it was Ember) so you can use that fact - place that member further on back (mb also spread the rest a bit so AI would not change priority for grouped up chars, no idea if it does that), the spirit will walk into the rest of your squad where you kill it.
There is a finite number of them and you do get a reward for defeating them, albeit a crappy one.
Edit: As for killing them, ghost touch and undead bane weapons help if you have them. The Paladin's Bless Weapon spell should be good. Otherwise you can try dropping summons that are either immune to magic or have good SR and running away until it exhausts its spells. Most enemies have a finite number of spells and, while their spellbooks refresh on a reload, you can exhaust their spells and finish them afterwards.
As a side note, it's interesting that the devs train us to loot everything up to this point, then punish the behavior this one time.
But that aside, if you just take the whip as the last thing you do there, and then come back at later act, they will not spawn anymore. At least that's how it worked for me.
Wow, that’s cool. What is the reward btw?
700 XP and I guess you get to keep the whip.
Freedom of Movement cancels his Stagger from the Curse so it should cancel the downside on the whip as well.
You can summon Baphomet and Deskari once per game but if you do you lose the game;)
