class skill checks out of combat...
should always be max roll out of combat. If you are interrested in a topic, you will know it by heart, that is what class skills are. It is so annoying if you have on level class skill and you fail an easy roll because of bad luck. This is a game. Most rolls are just RP/information rolls. Please can we get of this, ohoho, you specialized charackter rolled a one out of combat on an easy skill check, so F. you! You are not getting the lore although you invested all your class skill points into the specific skill thing? Because i am convinced most player will safe scum until they get the role to succeed, but this should not be neccesary. If one specializes in something, it would be very unlikely to fail to remember.

I think it was neverwinter nights that introduced alway roll 20 out of combat for skill checks. This makes sense, as there is no reason to not retry a knowledge skill check until you remeber what it does. Under the line it is just unnecessary frustration for the player, in my opinion.

Mm, I wouldn't be against them adding an "always take 10 when outside combat" option. Though in a game where time is actively being tracked, unlike NWN, always taking 20 probably wouldn't be practical because taking 20 is supposed to take 10x longer than just making the check. So taking 20 on a single perception check would cost you a minute of time, every time, and taking 20 on a single trickery check to disable a trap would be several minutes, for example.

I believe there are some classes that can "take 10" on knowledge checks. Perhaps the Bard, and the similar other classes?

Personally, I activated "minimum take 10 out of combat" option in the Toybox mod.

So, the only thing I will say is, unless the MC is doing something alone, I don't always get why these PARTY skill checks don't check against the PARTY MEMBER with the highest skill for the check. Look, my knight MC may not have 20 in Nature Lore, but the Druid over to his right does ....

Now ... these days it seems like a lot more of those checks do these days, but that wasn't always true. That seemed to come in a patch, though I think again it's not entirely (as with so many things) consistent.

Archaelogist(Bard) can take 10 for sure. Nobody can take 20 afaik. But don't pick the meme class.

You don't need max rolls if you keep your skills up. Use Sosiel's Domain abilities if you're having trouble doing that.

No do pick it - makes a great Trickster. Luck bonuses to Skill Checks are very rare and you need high Trickery for Mythic Trickery 2. Likewise the passive bonuses to Perception and Knowledge/Lore are all outstanding.

Or you could just get Touch of Law on Regill to always roll 11 or use Sosiel's abilities instead of cheating. Why play the game at all if you don't want to learn it?
