Yeah exactIy. She is the aII powerfuI variant of HuIrun, trying to ruIe GoIarion with her iron fist.
The femaIe Judge Dredd.
Then, her friend became a new goddess, and she became her paladin. Still at a young age. And then the worldwound open, and destroy the kingdom next to hers.
Iomedae give her the instruction to hold the line and fight back, which she does. Even told her she'll help (liar). In the worst war in Golarion, with literal Demons who takes great pleasure in the suffering of others.
It's been a hundred years. She never had a life, sacrificing everything for the war. All her friend are dead. Many were tortured to death and whatnot.
I think she only had one lover in her life, before the worldwound. That's how young she was.
And the Gods ? Nothing. They left her. They lied to her. In fact, the 5th crusade is her last. Either she die or win, she doesn't care anymore.
As for her capabilities, a few remainder :
-the player is always the focus of attention, and everyone will fail so the player can save the day. True everywhere
-the moment she leave Mendev, the kingdom crumble. She was able to hold her kingdom, for a hundred years, in a permanent state of war. That's a feat. As someone pointed out, imagine playing kingmaker in last azlanti, for a hundred year. And not fail.
What kind of manager would you have to be to have your country fall apart without you in a week? I know the answer coz I played crusader kings 3 lol. You have to be a dumbаss. Also with a guys like Prelate Hulrun and Nurah you'll win this war for sure.
But I must agree that Iomedae is a bitсh much worse but only because she was given more. She just sat there munching her divine popcorn while her toy crusaders died by the hundreds of thousands. It's just Total war: crusaders 3 for her. And when she saw someone ruining her show she instantly went down to mere mortals and demanded that the main character give up his powers. I can see why the demons call her an impostor.
And she would accomplish little as paladin alone. Plus Iomedae told her to hold the line and lead the crusades.
As for whether she bath in luxury, we don't know about that^^ Plus it's easy to judge, but what would it accomplish if she didn't bath ? Besides smelling something fierce which would penalize her diplomacy^^
I mean, my mom told me to eat my food because africans were starving, but I wonder today if they felt better knowing that I emptied my plates :D
And she literally join you if you ask. Then, she join you again if you are nice with her and not evil. On the frontline.
She is the face of the Crusade, being the chosen of Iomedae and all. She is so much the living symbol of the Crusade that Mendevian priests use a potion of youth to be sure she stays that way. She is old and tired, waging a never ending war against an opponent no one knows how to beat, facing a problem that has no known solution. All her life, she was told to be the proud herald of faith of glory. However, it's difficult to keep faith and glory when you can't win, when there's no solution. Even the Angels and Iomedae don't help anymore. The simple fact that she held the line, making sure that Mendev didn't fall from demonic invasions and manipulations, or even the internal politics of the kingdom, is an incredible accomplishment in itself.
And then there's some random dude/gal that comes out from nowhere, waving mythic powers and viewed as the Chosen of Iomedae. From Galfrey's perspective, the blow hits really hard : she was supposed to be the Chosen of Iomedae, she was the one holding in the face of the impossible... only to have all her accomplishments stolen from her by the Commander.
Anyone has a breaking point and Galfrey reached hers some time after you appear.
Does this story sound familiar? Now let's imagine that some weird dude shows up who magically solves all your problems. Poof. And you are kinda like HMMM I should exile him to the abyss coz he's too awesome.
Okay, let's pretend the scenario is the same.
So, you're a King in a kingdom doomed by lunatics, traitors and idiots yes, yes. But there's no solution to your problem, no way to stop the laughing god in any feasible way known to you or the entire known world, but you keep the kingdom in one piece for a hundred years. And someone comes and have SOME major victories... And everyone start to say he's the chosen one and you're not good enough anyway.
Have fun being cool with it and not be a little bit angry.
And hey, since he's so insanely good at solving problems, why not send him at the heart of your problems ? Sure, that's probably a death sentance, but hey, at least you tried.
Being jealous it's ok. In the end only the proud and ambitious get the power. Those who are kind and wise will simply step aside and shove their ambitions far far away for the sake of the cause. Evil and prudent will try to get rid of the upstarts but after the victory.
Someone else not endowed with the gift of strategic vision (if it hasn't appeared in a hundred years will not appear in a thousand) will send him into the abyss but not like that.
"You know what we learned about those crystals, well, only you can handle it. We owe the whole country for your heroism. We'll give you a feast, artifacts, gold, beautiful chicks and rank of super commander. And we look forward to your return." That's how you should have said it.
And here we have just a clear example of how to ♥♥♥♥ everything up and at the same time say: "Oh, yeah, I was wrong. What? Oh, yeah, my mistake, sorry. But I won't take off the crown no no no, I have to you know, for the sake of the people."
Bah.
But I can understand how and why Galfrey act the way she does. She is kind and wise... but she is also very, very tired. By your very existence and/or your acts, you shatters Galfrey's identity and reduce an already self esteem to zero. Not being jealouse would have made her a saint. Alas, she is not.
Plus, how she sends you in the abyss depends largely on what you did and the Mythic Path you choose. If you're an Aeon, Angel or Azata (a patient Azata, that is), she doesn't "exile" you, but send you on a mission all the while letting you keep your rank as a Commander. Even if you follow a more dubious Path, Galfrey still says that sending you to the Abyss is a strategic move.
But by the way I'm not mad at Angel for his betrayal because he's just dumb. And his remorse was sincere also.
