Incubus cave

Somewhere in Act 2 there is a map with a couple of incubus and will o wisp. I mop the ground with the first few mobs, then the boss completely explodes me.

What should i do?

Buff harder or come back after leveling up again

Buff like crazy (heroism, barkskin, bless, etc. last throw haste) Hasted run through all regular incubuses and smack pain conossair (also if you have pets tripping dog or wolf makes battle easier). Reload, reload and reload until dice is favorable. That is the name of the game wrath of reload.

I usually pass it by and come back later after Drezen, the main reason being that I don't want my archers getting smoked by the mage hero in the tower guarding it.

You can find a way to kill the will o wisps before facing Shivial and his bodygaurds. Do that and the fight will be doable.

You see his stupidly long list of buff? Either dispel it, attack him while he's buffing himself up, use summons to buy time - run to otherside off map and pop invis spell - wait for a few min by time skip and try attack him again.

Or may be an hours for important buff like 'divine power' 'rigtheous might' to expired.
Just to be sure.

I've been leaving this game sit for a while. Picked it back up today. Tried the Incubus cave, because that's where my game was at.

Played on turn mode, wiped the floor with the guy.

This cave is on act 2. It should be possible to do it without coming back later. People here are going to tell me to play on turn mode, which i probably should. I don't like it, it's tedious and i just drop the game instead. I'm playing on normal, i don't know if this is expected, or a speed bump in the game.

There will be many optional boss fights that are much harder, some of which you can't come back to later and where you will need to make full use of all your heroes' abilities. That is where real time becomes tedious.

Do not hesitate to come back later if needed.
It is better in wotr, but the infamous "spider cave" in PFK (the 1st game) made a lot of people rage, even after it was nerfed.
It is not because a side quest is available that you should always complete it as soon as possible. It is a just a gamer-breed-habit.
So I recommend to give a few tries, and if you do not manage it, come back later ,)

You can actually kill wisps in a separate fight, as they seem to spawn right after you pass a certain point in the cave (and since the one Incubus that might trigger the fight is patrolling, there's a chance he won't trigger his buddies, boss included). As for the boss, play it his way, buff yourself harder than him. He does indeed have crazy attack power and is most likely going to hit you through Displacement, but if you have competent 2-3 close combat fighters, you can explode him before he explodes you - he isn't all that crazy tanky. Haste is a must, Heroism does help too, make sure to use all the AoE buffs (Camellia has one). You could try debuffing him too, although his saving throws are quite nuts for this stage of the game.

Will-O-Wisps can be killed before going after Pain Connoisseur. Wisp are in left nook (there are to those colorful crystals) before the trap. Put communal elemental protection electricity and the wisp do zero damage to your party. After wisps are killed disable trap and buff everything under the sun and run straight to the pain conoisseur. Problem with conoisseur is that he is level 19 and your party is level 7. So run with haste and try distrupt him with beating so his buff casting fail (he drops easy if you distrupt his buffing session). If you fail to prevent buff casting then just reload and try again until you success.
