Easier Modding
I was looking at the new mods over at Nexus and saw this one.

(Enforcer Archetype)
This mod adds the Paladin archetype Enforcer to the game.

----> UMM is not required.

Instructions:

1. Go to Users/Username/AppData/LocalLow/Owlcat Games/Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

2. Create "OwlcatModificationManagerSettings.json" in this folder

3. Insert this into the file and save. (if one already exists just add "Enforcer" to the list.)

{
"EnabledModifications": ["Enforcer"]
}

3. Create a new folder called "Modifications" in the same folder and unzip the mod there.
[end]

Now I just want to point this out. It looks like all the in-game functionality for in-game modding without UMM is already there and enabled. Just create and edit a text file and a folder. Put mod there. No secondary app needed.

So this kind of mod will show up if you hit CTRL-M and go to "Modifications".

But -- wondering two things.

a) the only kind of mods that seem to work with this functionality are class mods. I wonder if they can "do" as much as UMM mods.
b) I wonder if these will auto-update like UMM mods. (My guess is no.)

P.S. this same guy has created an evil anti-Paladin class he calls the Dread Knight (seems homebrew, can't find it in "official" Paizo rules -- whereas there IS a Death Knight but looks different) and a Fallen Paladin one called the Oathbreaker, that retains some abilities.

Someone else seems to be working on the Ninja (Unchained) class - that one appears to be a semi-official Rogue archetype - still a "WIP". Unfortunately, I still don't think they've added shuriken to the game.

If you’re talking about the Expanded Content mod, Dread Knight and Oathbreaker seem to be the (renamed) Paizo classes Antipaladin and Vindicative Bastard respectively, possibly with some homebrew tweaks.

Yes, they can. That's because the manual steps (modifying OwlcatModificationManagerSettings.json and editing the file, then creating a directory with the right name and dropping files into it) is... Exactly what UMM does. It just does it automatically, with options to enable / disable mods. :)

And no, they won't automatically updated -- again, that's a function of UMM. Okay, UMM does more than just update the OwlcatModificationManagerSettings.json file, but that's the bulk of what it does.

I always wanted to mod Kingmaker but sadly was never able to make the mod manager working for Owlcat games. No idea why, never worked. Did not try with Wrath yet but something tells me that I would hit the same problem.

I guess this might solve the problem for me, maybe. Some Toybox features seem really useful, not for cheating but just for less headache.

Enforcer archetype is made by a different person from the expanded content mod.

Modding using the Owlcat template is definitely easier if you have 0 coding experience, but much more time consuming.

UMM can do the same thing, but most people avoid it since it's a pain. Tabletop Tweaks/Expanded Content are both UMM mods that add new archetypes/classes.

Saul Goodman, but I still don't get, then, why UMM installed mods don't appear on the "Modifications" (CTRL-M) screen. I instead have to pull it up with CTRL-F10.

I'm not a coder. I just use mods, I don't write them.

I love Toybox, and I once used the "Etudes" to fix a broken quest, but only because somebody wrote a nice guide on how to do that. It has a lot of features, and they are not all documented. I guess you should expect that.

I did once try and make something with the NWN2 Toolset. I didn't get far. :=>
