Act 3 questions
Does completing "On the cusp of the abyss" finish act 3 or will I get a choice to move on? I haven't completed the "middlegame" quest and the Azata choice gives me a week to wrap it up instead of a month. If I fail to complete middlegame, does that have any serious repercussions? Thanks.

On the cusp of the abyss is the end dungeon of act 3, once you start it you're locked out of the chapter, there is no coming back to drezen. Do everything you need to before, especially your mythic quest (that should actually be the first thing you should have done in the chapter, mythic quests are very important for the story and the development of mythic ranks).
Middlegame can be skipped but you really should do it to get a maxed crusade after.
I can only speak for my Angel playthrough but as far as I remember, please someone correct me if I'm wrong, the point of no return is either speaking with Nocticula or shortly afterwards. I can't explain it better, I'm sorry.

That would be act 4 my friend :)

Once you speak with the Hand of the Inheritor and agree to go to the spooky place aka Midnight Fane, you're basically at the point of no return for Act 3.
(luckily, the game does give you a conversation option here to finish up any cursade business you still have to do)
Also, missing out on a mythic-based quest basically breaks progression.

Ran into a bug on my Trickster campaign where the Act 5 quest for Mythic 9 wouldn't progress, no matter how long i waited, and eventually just completed the game at Mythic 9 from the point where you normally gain 10. So, sadly, only got like, half the Trickster ending, but I was also plenty powerful enough to finish the game.

Can you elaborate a bit on what mythic rank I should be by the end of Act 3? I'm at 4 only.

You're right on track, you gain Rank 5 immediately at the start of Act 4.

If you follow the story from act 3, you basically can't miss a Mythic Rank up to 8, and 10 is essentially handed to you 5 minutes from the end of the game, Trickster just has a weird psuedo-time gated mechanic to it's rank 9 quest that never triggered for me, while Angel, Lich, Gold Dragon & Legend all worked perfectly fine.
