In the long run, just like with regular characters armor will end up leaving your animal companions with LESS AC than they would get from their dex+buffs+bracers without the armor.
Figures i would miss it, i assume it was during the initial assault on the wardstone
That is not the case, especially with horse. Bracers duplicate Mage Armor in any case. As soon as you get the Light you’re better off with that and the Medium is superior to Mage Armor or Bracers. The Heavy in Labyrinth is outstanding.
The Armorless meme needs to die.
Nope it’s the big one. Not really hidden just have to press the statues.
Oh so its when we go back near the end of chapter 1? Just trying to get a point of reference here without to much spoilers.
Yes, the first barding you can find is during the assault at the end of chapter 1.
In the main camp at Reliable Redoubt, you should find a set of medium barding called "Muscle Warmer", it's basically hide armor +3, with +10 cold resist.
Not amazing, but good enough to carry you until you buy some in Drezen, from the Travelling Skeleton merchant(sold under his protective gear option when asked what he's selling, iirc), or just find it in some deep, dank cave.
Even earlier than that, as soon as you have the chance to explore your base camp at the start of act 2, I remember there's a spot by the stables where you can grab a normal non-magical barding. It's not great, but if you haven't found anything else to that point, it's something.
Edit: Oh and you need the feats too, from choosing Bulwark or selecting Barding: Light (etc) at level up.
