Trickster skills - do they require training in that skill?
Trying to put together a Trickster build, and some of the skills appeal to me, but don't really fit my character. Some of them, such as Athletics or Mobility, obviously require you to have ranks in the skill to be useful. But others, like Knowledge: World, don't seem to use your skill ranks at all. Do you need the skill trained for these to work? Is there a minimum skill required?

I don't think so. I am only MR3 on my Trickster right now (and I only have Perception 1, which does have ranks in it), but I suspect unless it specifically says it uses you use the skill ranks, then it isn't required.

Yes and no. Some of the trickster skill tricks require you to make skill rolls to use them, like Trickery, so getting it without training is probably a bad idea. But some of them possibly could work, like Perception since it just gives you passive bonuses.

What Excalibur said. In addition, even if you have a great bonus modifier to a skill (like playing an Oracle or Sorceror Seeker that gets lots of bonus trickery), you still have to put at least 1 skill point into certain skills (like trickery), to use it since its a trained skill. The same goes for Arcane knowledge and UMD for example.

So if you want to get Arcane trick 1 to work, you need at least 1 point to identify things in the first place. Or to benefit from UMD trick 1 or 2 you need to be able to at least use wands and/or 1 point in UMD to do so. Some wands will require higher UMD to use too.

Any tricks that have a save/DC mechanics, you probably want to train their respective skill as high as possible +item bonuses, so they work on or against bosses/high level enemies. A lot of the formulas work out to original save or DC check minus a certain penalty. In the end requiring about 40-60+ skill to be useful in all situations.

Just be warned that many of the tricks don't work. I made a build around using mobility 2 and when I hit mythic 4 it did not work

Stealth also did not work at all.

Persuasion 1 works like a charm. Perception 2 also works, and can be extremely powerful if you build your party around it.

Knowledge world 2 also seems to work

The Knowledge and Lore skills require you to be 'trained' (ie, have at least one rank in them) or you can't use them. Same goes for Trickery and UMD.

The rest of them don't require any ranks and will use your attribute bonuses along with any item/circumstance bonuses.
