The more I play the more I hate Nenio

She's the most unlikable npc I've ever seen in any game, she's essential for the secret ending, and planning any character around her is a bloody headache because of how poorly made her class is. I'd love a mod that would change her to a better kind of wizard and make her opposition school divination which is almost useless and not transmutation. And it's total crap because the two other caster companions are well built for dps while Nenio isn't good at dps or support.

Can I just not take her at all? What am I even missing if I do besides annoying dialog and a crystal?

I don't like her as a character, but she is very strong. Scroll Savant is great given the availability of scrolls in this game, and you can use Metamagic or make her an Arcane Trickster if you want to use her as DPS. For support, she can use key spells like Blur, Haste, Displacement, (Greater) Heroism, Selective Grease/Web/Sirocco, etc., and she can clear whole rooms when she gets Weird. Also, aren't her opposition schools Abjuration and Necromancy (not Transmutation)?

Nope. Don’t take her at all. I’ve had a perfectly amazing run without her. Not interested in Ascension so my second run is going just as great without her. Anyway I understand you can Ascend anyway without her, at least the MC can

As far as I remember, yes. She is the first NPC that I can’t stand talking to at all.

I like her and she is my room clearer and CC member, one of the more powerful ones but that's probably mostly cause shes a wizard, "harry". I also like her interactions with pretty much everything.

I think Nenio is either instant like or instant dislike. As for her build, with enough money she can basically forget about spell slots (yay scrolls), and phantasmal killer & aoe phantasmal killer can kill a lot of things after she levels up enough.
but there's a mod that can take her into anything, its called respec mod. :>

I feel the same. I finished my very first playthrough with her by my side, because the discovery you know, and she's basically the only pure arcane spellcaster available.
And it was a chore from the very first encounter until the end.

Now, I'm in the middle of my 3rd run, and I avoid her completely and hire a merc of a my own making instead.

I've played CRPGs since the 2000s with Baldur's Gate, and not even Anomen was as obnoxious as she is. I can't remember a companion I disliked to the point of avoiding it completely.
At least her introduction is honest and instantly tells you you'll have to deal with a pedantic, insulting, pseudo-intellectual character. "Hey you, super dumb boy that I don't even try to remember the name of, want to be my servant?"

Yeah no, you can try to figure how to enter your pyramid all by yourself from now on.

Personally I like Nenio, at least well enough. But I can definitely understand her being... divisive. You either love her or you hate her, and neither answer is wrong.

You can kind of vs. her with Ember (who gets a lot of the arcane disables+hexes), assuming you have another party member who can cast Haste, Displacement, Greater Invisibility and Greater Heroism (like Seelah the Bard).

You can make Nenio useful by turning her into an AT. Although in this game, the way that scroll DCs are calculated, her being a scroll savant isn't that bad. Her absymal strength is more of a problem. Particularly if the enemies are casting waves of fatigue/exhaustion. Exhaustion tends to be enough that she can't move.

As for her personality, it might have crossed the line from representing to mocking people with Asperger's or ASD.

Nenio is by far the most powerful companion in the game, the powerhouse of your party. That's 'cos Illusion school is insanely powerful and she is Scroll Savant on top of that which is also insanely powerful.

she's just nenio
a speck of sand, a piece of nothing, that took a body and form. a shard of a higher being mirroring its originator's thirst for knowledge, but not having much in terms of common sense to help with getting it. it's really pointless to measure her in terms of normal people imo

Through two playthroughs, Nenio has easily been the best damage dealer among the companions for me. Kept her straight scroll savant once and went 10 scroll savant/10 loremaster once. And I'm definitely on the other side of the personality test, too. I find her absolutely hilarious. I'm still getting new camping quotes with her on my third playthrough that I find funny.

Me too, I think she's a great character, totally original in this kind of game, a breath of fresh air and real laugh. It helps that she kicks arse to hell and back of course
