My bloodrager almost never casted a spell except shield and maybe the odd heroism/haste if I really needed to buff for the next fight. Buffing is really the only thing that feels worth it because for your damaging spells to even do well you need to grab feats- spell pen, spell focus, etc- that dilute your martial combat.
Where the class shines is the bloodline abilities you get. And primalist is a great choice, since any bloodline abilities you might have gotten that you don't like, you can trade out for some rage powers instead, so you won't end up stuck with any powers you don't want.
Mind you I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I played a Primalist bloodrage MC from 1-20 for my Demon playthrough. I got through the game fine and had my share of fun, so it wasn't a complete wash.
Made myself a huge half-orc merc with that class and he really shines.
Dunno what you mean about ranger spells. Lead blades, hurricane bow, Sense vitals, magic fangs, aspects, delay poisons and even the summons stay relevant forever.
my frustration with bloodrager is that currenlty bloodrage doesnt stack with demonic rage, which is really dum, and you cant activate demonic rage if you have bloodrage activated
I guess, I think it wasn't until I gave bloodrager a shot that I realized the only thing worth doing with your spells was buffing. Maybe if I made another ranger I'd run them a bit better.
That's the point for most melee classes with spells though. You buff to cover your defenses. Did you expect to be nuking as well? Wouldn't be very useful since you would need a massive amount of feats.
I guess I was expecting it to be more like a magus. Channeling spells through your attacks, but with a more limited spell selection to make up for the added benefit of bloodrage.
That's a huge problem with the demon path. As if someone would have two different types of rages, from a RP perspective its ♥♥♥♥.
Curious what build you went for that? Been thinking of doing a primalist demon run as i've heard the classes rage bonuses apply nicely for demon rage and vise-versa.
I was hoping to make good use of the transformations though-- i'm not 100% how they work in regards to weapons/damage scaling.
I am currently nearly done with ACT 3 , the last level of it, and my Drovier has done great despite being a hybrid without Min/maxing the character, playing w/ second hardest settings. It is better for my Druid to not be Min Maxed, and it has turned out brilliantly
I guess the general gist is that I made a crit monster. Weapon of choice was Falchion, improved crit and mythic improved crit, traded a couple of my bloodline powers for the Lethal Stance chain, by the end of it my crits were 15-20 x4 for just under 300 damage per crit. Took endless rage at mythic 1 so I could use bloodrage for most normal fights and stock my demon rages for boss fights, since they're kind of limited. The 3 demon aspects I focused on were, uh, Schir, Nabasu, and the one that gives you a natural armor bump. Major aspects were the ones that boosted STR, CON, and DR/-, and I used my profane bonuses to bump STR and CHA. It barely matters, but demon lord aspects were Deskari and Pazuzu.
I'm not really a build master, so I didn't follow a rigid guide or carefully plot out my build, I just kinda took what felt right, this probably isn't optimized or anything.
