It's never said, its bonus damage is calculated separately from the main one, which makes it useless.

I mean, it adds 1d6 +5 to fire spells, but its damage isn't simply added to a spell damage, but must overcome Demons' fire resist (10) first. As you understand it's +1 damage AT MAX, but usually just zero.

It's a pretty weird mechanics.

If you've got Ascended Element (or Vulnerability Hex) it all goes through, which is nice. Plus it's got Spell Penetration, which you sadly need to stack anyway.

Ember with the Ring of Pyromania, the Salamander ring, and Ascended Element Fire is pretty awesome. There's also a relic belt you can make with decrees that adds another 2d6 negative damage to fire spells and makes her immune to fire when turned on.

Spell penetration means nothing, if you have that staff from Ivory Sanctum. Bonuses from these items don't stack.

Just adding some additional insight to say this ring is very good if you're using rays for single target damage. It adds its bonus to every ray that fires so your normal scorching ray for example goes from a 4d6 to a 5d6+5. Of course like others have mentioned Ascended Element is a must have. If you throw in Zippy Magic, you'll get the bonuses on the second target as well. It also works for spells like Burning Arc that bounce between targets adding its bonus to each new target.

Are there better rings? I have no idea as I'm not trying to look everything up but I wanted to see people's thoughts on this ring since I've finally come across it.

Is there really any point of giving red salamander to Ember? She naturally gets scorching ray and can just learn hellfire ray normally. The other spells are rather meh, i find heightening scorching ray and just spamming that spell on my Fire Ember more effective than the other spells that red salamander gives. I am currently equipping Ember with the pyromania ring and another ring that gives her touch attacks extra holy damage, together with the belt that gives unholy damage when you deal fire damage

if i remember right hellfire ray as a chosen witch spell or from red salamander is a level 6 spell, while hellfire ray from the blackened curse count as level 7 spell

so there is a metamagic advantage for the red salamander ring

My main character is a sorcerer and she uses red salamander + pyro ring, every spell there is useful and amazing and it saves you spell slots, I combine it with the lightning bracers and elemental barrage + ascendant fire/lighting + the fire belt (unholy damage ) and the fire robes. Cast firebrand for team synergy ( electrical is also an option ) and you pretty much delete mobs with firestorms and chain lightning ( zippy magic makes this insane )
