Martial Weapons Proficiency
hey guys,
have a prob to understand the "Martial Weapons Proficiency" skill.
If I choose this, is then choosing "Weapon Proficiency (Greatsword)" unnecessary?
Because according to the wiki Greatsword is a part of MWP.

thanks for answers, Bel

Yes. The 'martial weapon proficiency' feat grants proficiency in all martial weapons. However, you will get +1 to hit if you already have a specific proficiency feat 'martial proficiency Greatsword' from a background or somewhere else. Simple weapon proficiency is the same.

With exotic weapons, you must choose a weapon to be proficient in, eg bastard swords. You are only proficiency in that exotic weapon and you must take the feat again to become proficient in more.

Yes. Martial weapons include the greatsword. Where can you even pick the greatsword by itself?

You double dip there, so is redundant.

Weapon proficiency on Backgrounds are useful mainly to get access to weapons you "normally" (per character class most commonly) do not have proficiency with.
With proficiencies from backgrounds - it's hard to see but there's a bit in the background descriptions somewhere saying that repeated proficiencies give an extra bonus. So if your class gives you proficiency with martial weapons and your background gives you proficiency in a martial weapon, then you just get an extra +1 on attack rolls with that weapon.
