I'm not really a Woljif fan so I let him do what he wants and dont even include him in the party. He truely is... an outsider
Or simply using his services because he -does- help you, both in fighting for you (if a little reluctantly) and serving as a connection to The Family and helping you "acquire" assorted goods.
Also, "Neutral doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about others" is a bit misleading. Neutral is, if anything, "do I feel like this or nah?"
I helped him because I was curious, that's it.
Who better to ask than a member of a local crime gang?
You can not ask him to help you either.
The only answers i get:
Sure i let a thief out and help him with his problems because apparently that is what nice guys do.
Help criminals.
I ask for roleplay reasonings.
Also, Chaotic Good is 'you want to help people' and 'you don't care too much about breaking the law', so I wanted to help and didn't care that he was a thief. And I thought I could get him to stab people for me.
He shouldn't just tell you that he's betrayed everybody he's ever been with. It makes little sense to take him on when he straight-up tells you he's sold everybody out countless times before. Also, he has 18 intelligence, so he must understand that telling someone (unprompted, no less) that you always betray everyone is not a good way to get on their team.
What they should have done is have him pretend to be very loyal but have the boss of the thieflings tell you his real history - that he always betrays his team. Then that could prompt a fun little crisis where he tries to convince you that he's in it for good this time.
Anyway, this game is terribly written so it can't be helped.
I did just for XP and to have all the companions.
As for other roleplaying reasons...chaotic characters are guided by their whims, so why not release him?
And practical characters might be totally fine with overlooking his petty crimes, since you need allies, and small amounts of thievery mean nothing in the context of a city invaded by demons.
'The Order of the Chain believes that every person plays a distinct and crucial role in the social fabric of every society. As a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, a society is only as strong as its weakest member. Thus, anyone who would renege from their social duty and seek to escape or take advantage of the social bond, must be hunted down and chastised severely.'
Woljif is the weakest link. He is not irredeemable and I will chastise him severely and daily and make a productive member of society of him yet. Further on I (my character that is) kinda becomes fond of the lil schmuck as a annoying -wanna throttle him but care for him- younger brother.
PS> I also have no love for how this character is written; I think that, like Nenio, he suffers from a cool idea that isn't executed up to its potential. They both have walls of basically unspeakable text though the voice actress for Nenio is truly up to the task; she's amazing, while the voice actor for Woljif, umm...stinks.
