Beast Rider Cavalier -- cannot mount?

I've got a Beast Rider cavalier with a giant centipede; we just leveled up to level 7, meaning that Kai the Bug should be large enough to ride, but when I click the Mount Companion skill on him, it simply says "Target has no" and refuses to let me mount. What am I doing wrong?

are you in a city / rest area? can't mount there. has to be a combat area, tried then? level 7 should be good to mount as the animal companion should be "large" size. make sure you don't have "enlarge" casted on your as well.

Yeah, I'm in a combat area and it's just refusing to let me mount him. The animal companion is definitely large, and I'm an unenlarged human...

i think the centipede is one of the companions you cant actually ride.

not sure why tho.

but don't totally despair, you can always go to hilor and respec in the same class, you'll essentially be remaking your character but you won't lose on any levels gained and can thus pick a different animal companion that you can mount and ride.

Your mount has to be one size larger than you. Which, for the centipede, means halflings and gnomes only I think

:( That's sad! But good news that I'm allowed to respect that much! I'd picked Deathtouched and it's been really irritating having to have a whole other set of spells to heal him...but then of course that means I might want to respect all of the people I put with Inflict Wounds spells since I wont' be using them as often...

I have the same problem...playing a halfling cavalier...and i simply cant change the pets i have. Either Dog or Wolf...cant mount them anymore.

Must be a bug. If you are a beast rider or have a companion mount, a small creature should be able to ride nearly all options and only 3 animals do not turn large @ level 7 (leopard, velociraptor and monitor lizard). @ level 7, you should be able to ride anything as a humansized cav.

Careful about enlarge person, but that's not usually a route you go unless you have a huge riding animal in the first place. And there is none in the game iirc.

it'not clear in the tooltip, they should stop to copy paste rules without adaptation. why can't we mount in city?

my mount icon just dissapeared and cant even use the ability anymore and it is gone from my character sheet and I am a cavalier lvl 12 and have been riding my mount all game

Probably not aloud to ride centipede . Doesnt it stay medium size as well at lv 7 ?

You must be suffering from some sort of strange local bug on your end.

I have a Halfling Hunter and she can ride her Wolf companion just fine. Sadly mounted archery is broken which kind of put a kabosh on the plans I had for her for now.
