How do you break the habit of picking up everything you see
I just started the game and im already maxed out on weight even after purchasing the Bag of Holding. In these types of games I never want to leave anything behind for fear of leaving something powerful.

How do you guys deal with this. Do you pick up everything and just go back to town to sell it all when you're full or do you actually examine each item to see if it's worth keeping.

I just pick up everything and deal with dropping the heaviest mundane items when it tells me I can't travel on the map (because apparently I suddenly can't walk even though I've been doing that for the past hour already).

You just learn to recognize whats heavy and not valuable and drop it. Time is precious so I never travel back to camp specifically for selling stuff, unless im passing by on some other errand.

Just don't pick up regular weapons or armor and it's not something you really have to worry about. You're not missing anything powerful and they sell for next to nothing unless they weigh a a lot.

Very simple - leave any armour that does not have +1 or above enhancement and leave any weapon that is not masterwork or above. Take everything else.

Any weapon or armor that is not a masterwork or enchanted is not worth picking up
Do the penalties for being encumbered ever really matter. In my very limited playtime it slowed me down but I couldn't tell a difference during battle.

Personally, I only pick up masterwork or better weapons. 100+ gold each! Kaching! If I get too much stuff, I wait until I can exit the map, load up on everything valuable on the exit screen, and then drag my sorry ass to the nearest vendor.

Good tip: don't pick up armor. It weighs a ton. Unless you can fit in some of those full plates in your overburdened backpack(they are worth a lot), its not worth the weight.

This game could use a price/weight efficiency filter in its inventory tbh.

For individual characters yes, they do matter in combat. Having medium and heavy encumbrance effects their movement speed, skill checks, and the amount of AC they get from dexterity.

Party encumbrance effects their speed on the world map and how quickly they get tired and need to rest.

Sell everything that is outdated or without good enchantments.
Store the things you might use later in your personal chests.
Don't take to many food ingredients or scrolls you will never use with you. Those things have a weight too and carrying around 100 tainted fowl or scrolls of magic missiles isn't going to help. You can just take 10 of each and put the rest in your chest.

Try to keep your party weight on light to avoid getting fatigued and exhausted faster as well as getting slowed down.

Simple: I just pick up everything and let my animal companions carry that weight... (sometimes i drop armor if even those are not sufficient, but rarely)

You get fatigued significantly faster if your encumbered to the point i had to be resting every like 8 hours until i realised what the problem was

You dont break the habit, the more items you leave on the ground the more the game have to remember and the longer your load time will be as the game progress.

Drop stuff to perma destroy it on world map or ambush if you need to thats it.

just check the option for deactivating weight influence to a degree you are satisfied with ; )

Just drop all the cheap rubbish that's like armour for 1 gold.

There is this weird I would have to say bug.

Normally if you take everything you will often be overburden and not allowed to leave a map until you drop stuff.

But if you leave things until you leave and click the take all option despite that this will overburden you it will still let you take it all and put you on the world map.

You can still move normally (though slow) or take this moment to drop unwanted stuff and this will destroy it.
