How badly does it mess up the campaign if you respec to a new class?
Hey guys!

As I've just found out it's pretty obnoxious sticking to LG if you don't want to use frequent law options (and a lot of the law options /irk/ me). People have kindly pointed out two ways in which I can shift my alignment back and forth but I'm weighing up just rolling NG anyway.

Obviously that's gonna be awkward for a Paladin, my character has so far been a pretty staunch Paladin so I'm wondering if it'll seriously upset the apple cart story-wise if I respec to Cavalier. (Beyond it potentially being a bit of a jarring shift.)

Not sure you can change class, as I understand it you can only respect your skills, feats and spells, i.e return to level one but with all your experience so you can level up again and make different choices. If you want to go Cavalier you will need to restart I think

Unless you want to take Cavalier levels instead of Paladin levels/ Not sure if those two classes work very well as a multiclass option.

Nah I checked the respec thing, you can change your /race/ if you want to, you can change anything, it's a little nuts and it feels like it'd break something.

Can you? Well then go for it I say, I don't think your class has any bearing on the story at all really from what I have seen

I wouldn't really recommend going cavalier until mounted combat and animal companions losing natural attacks get fixed. Mounted combat pathing is horrible and mine frequently wasted turns when I tried to charge. Also a good part of that class power is in the charge (makes sense) so you would probably want him to have high initiative. My character went after 2 other chars so he usually ended up being prevented from charging.
Those 2 things together annoyed me enough that I rerolled to 2h fighter.

In fact I wouldn't really recommend using animal companions in general until natural attacks get fixed, unless you go for I think the triceratops was mentioned which only has the 1 attack anyway.

Mounted life is a nightmare. Avoid.

If you start as a Dhampir and change to something else; you'll still be healed by negative power, not positive.

You can respec everything. When I respecced my second character, the first character was a flop and deleted, I was around level 6 or 7. Anyway it allowed me to try multiple character builds. You can basically sit there and keep respeccing until you feel comfortable with your build. The only thing I did notice was I could not change my alignment, it always went back to my starting alignment. It basically threw out all my dialog alignment choices.

I believe so, yes.

Re: Mounted combat

It's been fine so far as a Paladin, does it get noticeably worse as a Cavalier?

If you thought it was fine as a paladin its.... probably going to be fine as cavalier. It got on my nerves pretty quickly though, having to select a different character or dismount just to open a door or loot something.

That's entirely fair.

There are a few bugs that are quite nasty that can happen if you so much as touch the respec system.

That's what I was afraid of.

Hm... well I'm not even in Act III yet, I might reroll entirely and see how I go. Given I understand the game considerably better I may well get through faster too.
