Edit: forgot to mention, was on hard dificulty myself.
My wizard PC feels like a grease bot. I feel like almost every fight this early, the answer is grease
1 room further there are 2 even more broken mobs, Brimorak, whose fireballs just wipe out every member of my party with max 2 casts (1 is enough to reduce tank to 20% HP).
I am starting to think this game just presents you with unfair numbers to make you suffer and nothing more. The balance of mob groups is horribly off, some are easy, some are tough, some are completely utterly broken. I cant see myself ever beating that room and I think you need to do so to progress the quest.
Well, that's it for me, gamebreaker.
To have any fun in these games i really heavily suggest you have at least one guy that stacks their AC to the moon.
For example your camilla could have over 35 AC plus more AC from short time buffs.
Then they have to roll around 20 to hit, usually.
I tried another room, around 12 mobs and 2 of them conjure 100 swarms of insects.
Yup, cant kill more than 1-2 before full wipe. Grease, pits, everything.
There must be some massive huge bug in my save because I played Pillars and Divinity and I dont hear 100,000 players screaming in rage over this absolute unfair mess. So must be something on my side somehow. Cant figure it out. Do you get more than level 5 somehow before entering Garrison??
I would use a scout to check for enemies. Resist fire (or resist fire communal) certainly helps in fights against brimoraks (or fire elementals). Same as resist lighting was mandatory vs. the whisps in Kingmaker.
If you play for the first time, i don't think core difficulty is the right choice. If you compare difficulties to other games, i would say normal-daring is hard, core is nightmare, and hard/unfair is nightmare+. Just try a setting thats challenging but not frustrating, there are plenty of settings (and you can customize them even further)
For example, fireballs wiping your party implies that you haven't worked on your positining and didn't use ressources like Protection from Evil, Protection from Energy, Resist Energy...
There are tons of ressources that you have to use to survive and win fights. If you want to play the game like an action-rpg, you might want to lower the difficulty.
As Marcos said, core difficulty is actually hard. You meet mobs with AC 41 at level 8, or an archmage at the same level, who gets your party with rift of ruin (8th level spell). Better to dial it down until you have the hang of it. The upper difficulties are made for min/max players who know the best options in their sleep.
Yeah sorry, I spread my characters OF COURSE (fireball still hits everyone), there is no fire resistance anywhere to be had, neither spells nor potions, I use area disable/sleep whatever (it misses vs the fire mobs since insane stats), I tried luring them around corners... everything you can think of. I dont have to remind you it's level 5 heroes so no cool uber gear.
I used all my potions and scrolls of healing (that heal f*cking 4 points when any enemy strike deals 10+). Can't be done.
Now I tried re-train, of course you cant change the start class of your lore heroes so screw that. Mercs are 8k a piece, so screw that I guess.
Cant see any way forward tbh.
its not unfair. You just have to use your abilities better. Buff your guys. Take feats that make you able to hit easier like Weapon Focus or precise shot or raises your AC like Shield focus. If your playing core difficulty and not doing these things...your not ready for that difficulty level.
