There are no hands at all to interact with anywhere on the shrine.
I didn't find Thall on my first playthrough, so I couldn't sing with them, and was also unable to interact with the shrine. Once I get to the Lost Chapel area, I'll find out if I'm right.
When attacking Drezen, I deliberately chose Nurah's plan to lead me into the ambush in the prison. I recruited Arueshalae into my party straight from her prison cell! For what it's worth, you don't need to bring a lockpicker to open her cell door: choosing the Azata dialogue option opens it for you.
