Keep in mind that all melee have this design element where they won't do their full attack if they've done more than a 5 foot step. And at low levels this makes your character look like they're standing around doing nothing a lot.
It's a bit wonky for sure but it affects everyone not just cavaliers (enemy melee as well).
Later on.. if you can get the pounce feat from anywhere try that (one of the Barbarian animal specs?). Or one of the fighter archetypes, the scimitar / Iomedae one gets something similar (not sure if that's from a mod or what).
I honestly like the cavalier so far... I'm not sure exactly what is happening with who's getting full attack rounds and when. But it actually seems to be performing better than a typical melee charge for me.
I even booted up kingmaker to make sure I wasn't going crazy.
I'm glad you're enjoying cav tho. my friend ragequit his. Me? I've reached chapter 3 twice already so I'm loving the game I just had to pause a campaign because of morale glitch.
In standard rules, if there's anything blocking your path, you can't charge.
I find if the ground is clear, no companions in the way and it's a straight line to the enemy, charge will work. The issue with cRPG's is that there is no bending the rules to make it easier on the players.
Charge rules say x, so unless x is met, no charging.
Not sure about that. Sounds like blocked pathing but the horse shouldn't be able to charge at all in that scenario.
If you're okay with cheating try adding the pounce feat to your character using the toy-box mod and see if you like it. Treat that as a fix maybe.
Yeah I'm in no rush to do the campaign yet, I've seen the reviews. There's a cheat for that you could use in the mean time, too. Something like 'auto-win campaign battles'. Came out yesterday.
I saw that on Nexus. Guess I'll give it a try. Thanks for the advice bud!
Cheers.
I'm still having lots of fun with my Gendarme despite that. But it is annoying.
I never would've even thought of that. Guess it's a mechanic I took for granted. In kingmaker I ran really caster heavy parties so by the time I got around to playing melee I guess it was all patched up.
Funny. I mostly used it with my casters in Kingmaker. Take a 5 foot step away from an enemy standing next to my caster so I wouldn't get an opportunity attack. My melees just run in.
But the movement stopping I'm getting in this game seems suspiciously the same as what I'd get with 5-foot step if the button actually worked. Since the button isn't usable for whatever reason I don't think its a coincidence.
Lol I'm learning something new here thank you. i was never able to play table top much so I'm pretty noobish. Didn't even know that was a thing. Prolly would've helped a great deal!
Maybe it is related to Cavalier? I have heard that class is bugged.
Would be great if the UI can show that a charge is impossible, instead of us click and failing and wasting a move.
Are you playing turn based or real time with pause? I only get it in turn based.
