What are your top and low tier companions and why

Everyone else is low tier simply for being terrible (Scroll savant), have shared roles but somehow worse (Seelah shared role as 'tank' with my PC), or not being around (Wolf i'm looking at you!).

Best companion? Nok Nok.

Wenduag for direct and aoe longbow damage, Daeran for healing, Arushalae for headhunting Mythic demons and dps, Seelah's my tank, Camellia's only job is to spam chaff summons since I have the brazen whip which automatically gives any summoned minions permanent haste. I'm using their preset builds. my MC is a psychokineticist that does about 225dmg in ranged touch attacks per round with an energy blade so he just gets hasted and sent to kill anything with a high AC. My Number one pick is Wenduag though, she just absolutely kills the ♥♥♥♥ out of everything and with the ability that lets ranged shots do AOE dmg she blows up entire packs of enemies before they even close on the melee line.

All of them are top. Those that deny it just can't accept they don't conform to their standards of which Mercs fix that for the small small price of your wallet. Not to mention they are actually viable as companions unlike the majority from Kingmaker.

People are crazy. Nenio (Scroll Savant) is MVP , she's like a swiss army knife with all the scrolls you find. She can do it all. Also, Illusion spec is superp for crowd control. Phantasmal Web, Phantasmal Putrification. When enemies go to sleep from Putrification you can just Coup De Grace them for one shot kill. There are two ez items you can get to add +4 to illusion DC spells.

You also have Shadow evocation spells which you can turn into many different spells, i like to use these for Fireballs when I need some AoE damage. Or you can just buy scrolls. At level 10 she casts these spells at her Caster Level. This is OP as hell. Your cleric is down or not in your party? Just have Nenio cast from scrolls which is the same as a cleric of her level casting. She's a boss.

Ember is definitely top tier.

And as much as Nenio annoys me, Scroll Savants can be extremely strong. So she's got to be up there too, even though I don't want to admit it.

Lower tier would be Seelah. I like her respecced as a Martyr, but she's nothing special normally.

Seelah makes a solid Bard, excels in most melee DPS classes, and is a very good tank if you dip into Monk and/or Bloodrager (Steelblood).

What "conforming" are you talking about? And the majority of KM companions were perfectly viable (just maybe not in their base class).

Use the respec mod, now everyone is top teir! XD

For real though, I like the way these companions are written over the original ones in kingmaker, so I used respec to change their stats and class to what I wanted just so I can have them in my party.

Some sub-optimal races for the class but honestly core is not that hard that it was / is an issue.

I really like the writing for Daeran and woljif.

Combat wise, woljiff and nenio are the only ones that are salvageable (dare i say good) without losing at least 1 level for no reason.

In general the other ones are so bad that the only thing that matters is how early you get them so you can make them into something else.

Cam could be great if her stat spread was focused on casting rather than dex. Wenduag would be amazing without a fighter level. Sosiel you can make kinda okayish with impossible domain but Clerics arent exactly great to begin with and with everyone and their mother having spellresistance, immunities and high DCs casters are pretty situational and having like 3 of them in your party just gimps you.

Arushaebwahasdhajdha has god tier stats but was given the single worst ranger class they could have possibly given her and basically the only one that feels like just losing levels.

At least some of them got top tier stats this time around so if you can deal with just losing a level you can make some of them decent.

Also lol@ kingmaker companions being bad. I would trade Ekun/Reg/Oct/Jub/kal+kan/Gobbo for anyone who isnt woljif.

Conforming as in they aren't min/maxed to all hell or not classes that individuals want. The companions in KM are just that quite a few of them were not viable in their base class(though could still be used so in that sense could still be considered viable.)

Zen Archer Lann is fine... He will outdamage anyone else in the game just staying pure class.

Without a level in fighter, she's just six ability scores. Which are nothing special compared to Lann or anyone else. There is literally nothing wrong with taking a splash of fighter with her stats: she's gonna be a warrior no matter what you do with her.

Seelah is Valerie at home, but we don't really have any other choice. Camellia's too busy sucking balls till 5 and Woljif is on suicide watch until vivi dip at 4. As for tanking, it's usually monk and DD dip. Not really sure about Steelbound, doesn't seem to give much. Compared to primalist with UD at 3. Not sure about bloodrager dip as well, seems like a class that requires a lot of commitment. Also, skald Seelah (BS or CP) is definitely an option.
Lann is the only proper cleric in early game. Except for MC ofc. Without him life is hard on higher difficulties.
Ember's slumber is a game changer at lower levels. Evil eye is just too good to pass by.
