Weapon for spellcaster
I m kinda new to this game and i dont understand how to stuff the spellcasters (wizard, sorceress etc.. every class that depends on spells and have to stay out of the melee) i mean, they re weak as glass and cant handle a bow or a crossbow so what are they supposed to do when they dont cast spells (and these littlte 1d4 tricks arent really useful)

it might be a dumb question but i m curently lvl 4 and i was wondering what to do multi classing maybe ? but i m still not really sure)

I started as Hunter but i m really into this little hobbo elvette and the noble aasmar which are both really interesting (more than camellia or seelah) and i want to try them but dont know what the hell i should do with them early game

Thank you !

You don't really need any weapon if you set a cantrip to auto-cast. A weapon will do more damage of course but if you want to only sling spells, that is an option.

elven race gives weapon proficiencies including longbow and longsword, probably the "best"

It can't hurt to equip a dart or crossbow if you're playing real-time. You might never attack with it on purpose, but it'll keep your squishy mage from wading into melee with a damn minotaur the second you take your eyes off them.

Longbow/Shortbow is best if you have profiencicy with it, otherwise crossbow is fine.

They're not too bad with ranged weapons if you can get them a decent one. Be wary of where they're targeting though - without Precise Shot they're at -4 shooting into melee. Usually best to use them to try and pick off enemy archers/spellcasters.

You want to have 15 or 16 Dex(If 15 spend your first attribute point on Dex) with a caster and then take a few of the Crossbow/Bow skills.

This will make you good enough early game when you don't have many spells to cast and get you into late game where you probably won't need to use your ranged weapon much.

This is what i was thinking too but it ll be less points put into more "wizardiness", also for Tisonne the little elves she got the "hand burnes" traits which gives her -4 when using a weapon, so she needs to go full casting or does she can use some bow ?

Thanks for the answer tho tehres a lot to learn but i found it really enjoying

Most of the time if you are out of spells and have not taken feats to improve your weapon attacks, your cantrips have the highest chance to hit.

The "elvette" is Ember and she has the most potent early game cast there is - the Slumber hex. She can cast this an unlimited number of times (although she only gets one attempt per monster) which is why it's so potent. Monsters put to sleep by Slumber can then be issued with a Coup de Grace which is an automatic max damage critical hit by any character (i.e. the one that does the most damage per hit) which almost invariable kills them outright. This is a key combo for the early game and is extraordinarily effective.

Camellia develops into a monster off-tank (although there other ways to play her). She has access to a hex called Iceplant which affords a straight passive +2AC. You can buy a trinket from the scroll merchant and Defenders Heart that improves Iceplant from +2AC to +4 AC. You also find a nice +2 medium mithril breastplate for her quite early. She has sky high DEX and gets a +6AC bonus from it so long as you pump her DEX at L4. These things can accelerate her AC past Seelah's. She is deadly with her rapier and has a bag of tricks to enable her to bypass various DR and protections found in monsters (the Sprit Hunter stuff basically). She can also do heals and has access to a number of spells from the cleric line (divine spells). Give thanks to Immodae she's on your side.
