Free Mercs?
So i found Hilor giving free recruits when you first read defender's heart and they were 4.5k so i started saving up and now when I've returned he wants 8k per merc :( Anyone know if there's a mod or way around paying for them? It seems extortionate and I'm reading if you don't level up before you get to him they're 500gp so people are buying full custom teams and i've missed the boat.

The cost of mercenaries scales with your level, yes. Because the mercenary you hire arrives at your level.

I am level 4 and the mercs I am buying are level 3... is this a bug?

I used the ToyBox mod and gave me the money I needed to buy the mercs I wanted.
Does the trick from Kingmaker still work where if you stay at Level 1 the cost for each merc is 500 gold?

I think so but getting out of the Maze without leveling might be rough.

What If I level everyone except my main character? will I still be able to recruit level 1 mercs for 500g?

What is the price for mercs anyway? (formula) I know level 3 is 4500 and 4 is 8000

No, I tried it. It bases the cost on having the XP for whatever level, not on your actual level. I reached Hilor with juuuuust enough xp to hit level 3, but did not level up. He still charged 4500 per merc.

It's 2k for level 1 mercs but I don't think I was charged for my second and third merc.

Even if you are you should be able to afford 4 mercs easily if you sell everything from the shield maze.

To be honest I really don't know. Like I said, I gave myself the gold and made my custom party. It was way simpler this way.

Sigh, I might just do that... what is the simple way to give yourself gold?

Use the ToyBox mod. You can also use it to adjust the level and xp of the mercs to fit with you. Just don't use it to respec, it's as buggy as the game's respec.

I can't believe they actually made merc recruitment worse than PF:KM despite all the requests...

The instruction are at the bottom of the description of the mod page over here:
https://www.nexusmods.com/pathfinderwrathoftherighteous/mods/8

Copy pasted for ease of use:

Install & Use
1.Install the Unity Mod Manager.
2.Install the mod using the Unity Mod Manager or extract the archive to your game's mod folder (e.g. '\Steam\steamapps\common\Pathfinder Second Adventure\Mods').
2.Start the game and load a save or start a new save (the mod's functions can't accessed from the main menu).
4.Open the Unity Mod Manager by pressing CTRL + F10.
Adjust the settings in the mod's menu

The Unity Mod Manager is here: https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/21/?tab=files

So run the Unity Mod Manager .exe. Choose WOTR and click install, no need to change the installation type. Then on the Mod tab, simply drag and drop the ToyBox zipped folder, no need to unzip or copy files. The Mod Manager can be mostly anywhere on your PC too. Then in the game juste press CTRL-F10 and it will pop a window with the mod, you have to click on it to expand the options. There is a box to write a number and then that number can be used near the Money section to add that number of gold, in my case it was 4500. The mod window also opens automatically when you start the game.

Also don't forget to scroll down and click Enable Achievement checkbox or else it disables achievements, no big deal but can be a pain if it is something important for you. This all of course come with the standard thingies about making backup and being careful, mostly everything about respec will cause problems down the line but adding money seems fine.

Have fun!
