The time limits and the possibility to mess up lends the game a slight air of urgency, which is very fitting. The limits are however quite liberal, and were even more so in Kingmaker. I don't even know how it's possible to mess up the time-constraints in that title.
It's ok that the game is not for you if the possibility of a bad outcome ruins the experience. Obviously a lot of us are really glad that element is there, even tho it's no challenge at all.
That's what I did, I have it on easiest possible settings. I don't care for a challenge, my goal to stay out of a freakin wheelchair is enough challenge for me, I just want a stress free game play.
