Warpriest Sacred Weapon - how does it work?
In the description it states you can use a weapon you have weapon focused or diety selection. For me it's a shortsword for both diety and weapon focus.

It says the damage is based off the warpriest's level, not the damage of the weapon. How does this damage work?

Any other tips for this skill would be appreciated. Thanks.

For a short sword wielded by a medium size character you would not see a difference at level 1, since both the weapon and the sacred weapon ability do 1d6 damage.

However, something does not seem to be working correctly with this ability - or else I'm doing something wrong. I have a level 1 warpriest (cult leader) who worships Pharasma (favored weapon: dagger) who is wielding a dagger. Normal weapon damage is 1d4, sacred weapon damage should be 1d6. The damage is just 1d4, though.

The character has a sacred weapon ability, which I assume is used to toggle between using the weapon's damage or the sacred weapon damage. However, the damage remains the same 1d4 whether the ability is toggled on or off.

I do not have weapon focus: dagger, but my understanding is that the character's deity's favored weapon should benefit from sacred weapon damage regardless of whether the character has weapon focus in that weapon.

So, I'm wondering whether this is a bug (for example, maybe weapon focus is in fact required even though it should not be) or if I am overlooking some important detail of how this ability works.

i believe it only works with weapons you have weapon focus with.
I have war priest and war hammer and light mace as weapon focus and torag worship but the damage doesnt change at all with or without the sacred weapon on off, so not sure if its a ui bug or its not giving the bonus damage. I noticed the speed attribute doesnt update sometimes unless you remove your armour then put it back on...
I just made a level 1 cult leader with weapon focus: dagger, and toggling the sacred weapon ability does toggle between 1d4 damage and 1d6 damage. I'll be reporting this as a bug in-game, since the ability is supposed to work on a character's deity's favored weapon (per the description of the sacred weapon ability in-game) but does not.

The damage for the light mace is 1d6, so you won't see that increase until your sacred weapon damage is higher, which happens at level 5. The damage for the warhammer is 1d8, and you won't see an increase in that until you reach level 10. You can refer to the chart in the link jitrnicka2 left in the second post of this thread to see the damage that a warpriest can get from sacred weapon, for comparison with various weapons to see when they will start to benefit.

If you should be getting more damage but are not then that may be a bug, which you may want to report so that it can get fixed. At least in my case, the UI was not having any trouble updating the weapon damage once I actually had weapon focus.
i have shortswords and my damage did increase from 6 thru 8 but i am now lvl9 and the damage remains 8

That is correct, according to the SRD’s damage table you get 1d10 at warpriest level 10, not 9.
they need to reword the description then,it reads as the warpriest level is the weapon damage not that the damage jumps in increments evry few wp lvls. thx for the explanations :)
