What the heck do you do with Camellia?
I can't really tell what her class is suppose to be. She's got fairly good AC. But she does not hit very hard, and doesn't even have significantly high bonus to hit to hit reliably.

Further, everything feels like it has got bloody damage reduction so her doing low damage leads to her doing basically nothing.

Her elemental bonuses to her weapons don't really help either, cause most of the demons have resistances to the base elements she can slap onto her weapon.

I don't understand the class she's suppose to be, it feels like it's trying very hard to be a magus but just being worse than a magus?

Can anyone provide insight in regards to this? BEcause I'm thinking about dumping her and trying someone else. (I try to keep 3 frontlines 3 backlines, she's got good AC, but things seem to just ignore her half the time)

Did you by chance swap out her rapier? Her default weapon is made of cold iron, it should be good to bypass the DR of the demons
Nyaria Sep 3, 2021 @ 4:52am
Yeah, I found a +1 weapon, which generally was better. I know cold iron bypasses some of the DR, but she still doesn't feel like she does any damage even with it on. I have her with both rapiers, one for demons one for brigands and the like.

Heck, my Witch with a bow feels like she is far more productive in hurting people more ofthen than Camellia.

I'm not sure if I'm just doing something wrong with her, or if her class is just not a good class?

It's mildly annoying that she's my best trickery person, because she feels like dead weight outside of traps and picking locks, and her constantly saying "See, aren't I useful?" over and over again almost feels mocking at this point. Haha

I'm new to the class as well with this game. I think it is fair for other new people to come to similar conclusions. I thought she was basically a magus witch hybrid.

the problem is she must get the feat that makes her use DEX in place of STR in damage rolls, until then she is stuck doing very low damage
Gregorovitch Sep 3, 2021 @ 4:56am
She ends up hitting very hard with her rapier and she has a bag of tricks to circumvent damage reduction (of which there is a lot in the game). Her AC is huge. She gets the Iceplant hex (which should be an auto-pick) for +2AC. You can buy a trinket from the scroll merchant in Defender's Heart that increases Iceplant from +2AC to +4AC for her, an auto-buy item. She gets to +6 DEX bonus in medium armour on first stat increase. There is a nice +2 mithril medium breastplate to be found early quite easily. This adds up to a lot of AC, even beating Seelah.

So she makes an excellent off tank with a significant extra bag of tricks and spells and good damage output. In short she is a lot tougher and her claws are are lot sharper than they might appear at first sight.

Yeah she gets this feat about level 4 ot 5 I can't remember exactly. It's a must pick feat for her. It's recommended in the level up interface so you're unlikely to miss it.

Most of the experienced players on the beta forum etc consider Camellia is best left as Spirit Hunter for all 20 levels, she gets pretty damn strong.

Yes that's what it's called. As I say, it's recommended for her in the interface. Don't miss it.

Is it? I've had her set to auto level up and she doesn't seem to have the feat, I'm going to have to correct that, she's level 6 and still only doing 2-7 damage per swing.

Shaman is basically a divine (instead of Arcane) caster magus. Also on higher difficulties she is arguably the strongest companion early. She has fast progression to improving her weapon of choice which is the rapier to give it weapon focus as well as weapon finesse (dex to damage on rapier) and her early shaman ability selections are sdlid - iceplant for another +2 to armor class, (+4 with a ring you can buy early) and also intimidating display ot dazzling which can be selected with her shaman power list.

At level 8 she gets weapon training specialization in rapier which is also great and that type of stuff is usually restricted to pure melee characters like fighters.

So you final build is 18 Shaman/2 Instinctual Warrior (Barbarian) or 16 Shaman / 2 Instinctual Warrior / 2 Fighter.

The reason to take 2 levels of Instinctual Warrior - is that she not lawful so she can't dip monk, but 2 levels of IW also gives her WIS to AC and also rage which can't be used every fight with Unlimited Rage mythic feat.

So yeah if she is doing low damage for you give her weapon focus rapier and fencing grace rapier asap.

Mythic Weapon Finesse (Rapier) is also there to get once you get a mythic rank.

Right now, I'm using Camellia to basically keep Protective Luck up on Seelah (forces all enemies to roll twice and take the worst on all attack rolls. Yeah, it's almost a mandatory hex to have on shaman/witch characters). Once she gets Chant, I'll be able to mix in spells and attacks, but she's doing just fine as a hex buffer at low levels....

Or Slumber Hex to each round 50/50 take an enemy out of action and potentially set up for Coupé de Grace...

Shaman is basically a Full Divine spell caster like Cleric, but can be made in many ways.
