thanks, i missed the attack
HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THIS??????
This isn't true, literally just missed an attack with Seelah with Fighting Defensively on, the buff showed on the character and her AC got the +3 from Fighting Defensively showing on her character sheet.
Honestly if you had to hit to receive the buff this would be the worst ability in the game.
If you don't make an attack you don't get the buff.
Just tested with Lann and he received the buff after attacking with his bow.
Was your Sorc's spell a roll to attack spell? Like Ray of Frost? Or an auto-hit spell like Magic Missile? I don't have a caster to test with right now but I'd assume that it would only work for spells that need to roll to hit the target. If it works with spells at all.
It was Jolt, the electric cantrip. I just tested it again and Fighting Defensively doesn't seem to be doing anything for her casting attack or when she is attacked. I also tried it with magic missiles and it doesn't seem to do anything with or being attacked after that either :(
I'm getting really tired of things not working like they are described in this game. It's so frustrating...
Fighting Defensively is with Weapons or Natural Weapon Attacks ...
Magic Missile doesn't have an attack roll requirement, so it's no surprise that FD didn't work for it. Jolt does have an attack roll, so the fact that it didn't work for it means it probably doesn't work for any attack spells, not really a surprise or a concern.
If it doesn't work on attack spells it should say so. It says it works "on attack rolls". Spells (ranged touch attacks) have attack rolls, do they not? Therefore, it should either work with these spells or say otherwise.
So yes, I would say it's a concern. Because I'm tired of important descriptions being left out or things being improperly described in this game with a lot of different mechanics to deal with.
What player wants to have a game not properly describe things??? What video game developer wants to design a game that does not accurately convey information to the player???
