i had a lot of trouble deciding what path to take because they all seemed pretty bad outside of the thematic choices.
As for Lich vs. Aeon in general terms, I will choose Lich for 1st playthrough because I love to be a powerful Caster, and Lich is exactly that for Arcane Casters.
Aeon, to me, feels more like a Rogue-ish deal, less focused on caster combat anyhow.
Aeon has a bane ability iirc, and it stacks with the regular inquisitor bane, which was my reasoning for playing an inquisitor for it, plus it makes sense lore wise too. I heard aeon was kind of weak in beta though, which was my only hesitation towards it.
Aeon is Cosmic Judge, you get a Court, you make judgements and deal with things on more of a Cosmic scale.
I think the trailers give you a pretty good idea of the themes. For my time in Beta I never got to Aeon, but Lich is a lot of fun and the devs put a lot of time into it. So you can't go wrong with it. If you do pick either though make sure you find a guide so you go through the steps you need to make sure the path is available to you when the time comes.
Yeah I'm kinda leaning towards lich, especially with the exclusive companion(s), it definitely seems like they spent a lot of time on that path from all the stuff I've seen.
Not necessarily... I get why you said that, but I would counter that with:
It's not really an issue, as even such a first playthrough would thus keep the companions "lost" fresh for a subsequent run with another build & path.
really ? when i played it seemed like lich was only good for casters so i went for angelic path iirc. (i played in may so i don't remember everything)
can you explain why is lich good for melee?
Also you can turn your Aeon into Devil, that sounds interesting. Couldn't do it though, either it wasn't in beta or I did something wrong (or didn't do enough wrong).
Lich, How many time can you beat me before you lose
