Is it safe to dip 1 level in Cavalier as a Paladin for a mount?
I want to play as a Paladin but I'd really like to be able to ride a mount. It looks like you have to be a Cavalier in order to gain a mount?

If that's the case, if I create a Paladin and then take 1 level in Cavalier just for the mount, is it safe to put the rest of my levels in a Paladin like normal?

My main concern is if I do this, my mount might become useless if I only have 1 point in Cavalier and there are benefits later on its class that helps the mount, but I'll never get since I want to be a Paladin.

At level 5, Paladin can now choose between having divine weapon bond or having a animal companion (mount).

So you could still dip to get your mount faster and get some extras from the cavalier level.

Thanks for letting me know! I would honestly prefer to just stick to one class in all honesty, so waiting until lvl 5 would be okay before getting a mount, but do you think the extras from a Cavalier level is overall better than having divine weapon bond?

Played the beta some 400 hours. I'd say no it isn't worth a dip into cavalier. But you could also try it before hand with Seela ( companion you get at the start ).

If you don't take the animal companion as a paladin, your cavalier mount gonna stay low level and become useless real fast. Animal companion only level up when we level up a pet class and level 5 paladin with animal companion become a pet class.

Just remember to get the Boon Companion feat if you go paladin.

The last time i multiclassed my main toon in D&D game was back in 2006 :winter2019surprisedyul: just stick to one class you'll be fine even on hard difficulty, as long as you lvl your class correctly.

Will your mount be 4 levels behind, if you don't?

Should be -4

But it's more similar to -4 casting levels than -4 levels if that make sense...

I give all my characters in the party a level in Inquisitor: Sacred Huntsmaster.
That gives them animal companion and some basic magic.
I just started and i am still in the first cave, just leveled up to lvl 2.
So now my party has 4 raptors joining the hunt. :)

Does this mean that with boon companion Seelah's Horse will only be 1 level behind?

Additionally what about Mobility? Is Mobility a Paladin class skill?

Mobility is NOT a paladin skill, there is a background that gives it to you though. I am/was wondering the same thing about the Boon Companion perk, and I've had very confident people give me opposite information...

Seelah shouldn't need Boon Companion unless you multiclass her. Her horse should already be 5th level when you first get it at 5th level.

You are correct... sorry about that
