Help with the Endless Gargoyles Reliable Redoubt cave
I'm in Act 2 helping the Hell Knights in the cave with gargoyles and the "friendly" hell knights. Is there some trick to dealing with the endless number of gargoyles in this battle? They just never stop coming.

They'll stop until you slay them all. About 6 waves afaik

Pace yourself. Don't be afraid to let the Hellknights take aggro from time to time and absorb some of the damage. Area debuffs are king here (talking Slow, Grease, that sort of stuff), as they will help both you and the Hellknights. Focus fire on the gargoyle casters. Summon as much stuff as you can early on as it will stick around throughout the long-as-hell fight and give the gargoyles more targets to pick from.

Bottom right of the cave is the safest area for your casters. Immediately, or before battle, cast web/grease on the upper entrance and the lower left.

Summon wolves can be super helpful to take aggro and they sometimes get a lucky trip attack.

Clerics are a focus when they appear and weirdly all gargoyles are weak against embers sleep hex.

Protection/Resist against fire is very helpful against the casters. As mentioned before, at the lower part of the cave it seems safest, while making a choking point towards the path outside and switching places of your tank quick once the attacking gargoyles tries to sneak attack you from behind.

web and grease don't work on them, and stinking cloud doesn't work on half-fiend ones (meaning most of them), so don't cast any of those since it'll only debuff your summons and the hellknights.

I had Seelah and her horse charge the group at the mouth of the cave, and let the Hellknights back her up.

Meanwhile I had the rest of the group camp the back where the 'surprise' waves drop in to eat the cleric group. I had Ember sleep the targets in the back group, or put protective luck on the archer they always like to go for.

Don't be afraid to heal the NPCs if needed. But the fight is much easier if you don't care about them. I was annoyed with the Hellknights so I largely focued on keeping the cleric group up and let the knights take care of themselves. They were fine really. Even Yakker who's running around naked with a dagger.

But I did all of the above in turnbased mode, and your results may vary if you're playing on higher difficulties. But the 6 waves thing seems about accurate. Each alternating between the entrance of the cave and the rear.

You can also not do the cave part, even if you only did the outside part and Regil went into the cave you will find him later on ...

CC is king (though I don't think grease works. Gargoyles can fly, and I think the game gives them Immune to Prone as a result of that.)

You aren't required to do any of it. But if you made the trip you might as well finish the job.

Heh, I tried it on hard and it was a 'hard' pass. In fact I was astounded you can actually keep Regil anyway. Not that he makes it off the bench.

Ember is a godsent there, as in much of early-to-mid game. Gargoyles' will saves are quite abysmal, she can instakill one per turn via Slumber with about 80-90% certainty.

I rejected him after the fight and he still ended up conning his way into my group at a later point.

As a "good" character Regill is still number 1 companion. So efficient, so logical. Though when he isn't under your guidance, restrained, he is ruthless. I'm not even sure he is pure evil to be honest.

I did this encounter on Core. Took me literal hours to get through it. CC basically didn't work, tanks died quickly. Friendly NPCS were trash. Regil gets unlimited HP so you can exploit that.

Overall a long uninspired fight that simply threw mobs at you.

Selective web, slumber, displacement, mirror image srolls, haste, reduce for tank, boneshatter/bolstered magic missiles, summons. And smart positioning.

It's 50/50 on decent difficulty. Because Ember's stats suck.
