There are even such books in chapter one... how can you missed them when you came across libraries... you need to read them properly. Right click from inventory and hit info to open up the pop up window. And the one referred to differ from those consumables which increases stats. Those books with passive boni can be read multiple times. But you get the bonus only once. Once you read them you see the boni in your character sheet with the title of the book and the bonus. You can safely drop/sell the books after.

Also, there is a log notice whenever you learn something new from a book.

I almost always read the books before I actually loot them out of the container. I wonder if that's my problem.

Fortunately I have most or all of them in my stronghold chest, so let's see.

I mean... I kept the wand, went down into the basement, got the loot and then just beat the Lich's ass once I met him(my last playthrough was Lich anyway). If you snap it then you can't do any of that.

It's pretty good. If only for the fact that Devas are great for defense and the Nabasu demons full attack ends with vampiric touch straight to the touch AC
After you nab that thing, there isn't actually anything for the rest of the act that can survive one summon of those lads.

I never considered it a possibility for an issue, knowing the game mechanics by heart. But I too would think, if you read them whether you have them in your inventory or not should count. So maybe you like to submit a suggestion via ALT+B ingame for them to fix it.

Though it is definitely discussion-worthy. Can you really learn something from something which is not in your posession yet? I mean, how do you actually read a book while it is in a container?

Probably the same with why in some occassions you need the item in the inventory to trigger an event/dialogue (Radiance) and in some other it suffices if one of your companion in camp holds it or it is in your personal stash.

I do the same thing. I read them before I loot them. Grrrrr. ****!!! Looks like I have to start a new game for the 4th time now. I just got to act 3. F$%# F^%% F^$#

i found the summoning item there (looks nice), but no stat-boosting books. now, i didn't actually try reading them from the inventory, but they all cost 10-15 coins (and had pretty inconspicuous titles), so pretty sure they were normal junk. i did see many broken leather and paper items on the shelves, though. why would it be? some trigger to destroy the good stuff?

When you have an issue and start checking, make sure to make a general check to get faster to a possible solution:

■ Is the version you are playing the latest?

■ Are you using mods? If yes, do the issues still persist when you uninstall the mods?

■ Are the game files integrity still okay? After multiple patches there is no guarantee that some leftover files might lead to unknown issue which would usually be cured with a verification of game files.

■ Are you playing the game with combat in real time mode or turn based mode? If you are playing it in turn based mode, do the issues still persist when switching to real time mode?

■ Make sure to provide information which OS you are using. There are differences even between Windows versions which can lead to certain issues.

■ Keep your drivers up to date. You might be surprised how a corrupted file with video drivers, usb drivers, etc. could cause the game to crash. Before reinstalling the game after all files have been verified, you might want to make a clean reinstall your gfx card drivers first, as it turned out to be an uncommon yet not rare issue with crashes.

■ Send a bug report ingame by pressing ALT+B to open the reporting tool. Your save file and gaming system's specification will help the developers to identify special causes of rare issues.
