I believe you need to have kept the wand from Leper's Smile. I broke it on another playthrough, and the passage never revealed itself. It could have been a poor perception roll I didn't see, but I believe that it just doesn't appear if you didn't keep the wand.

You need the Wand of Zacharius from the caves under where you fought the Vescavor Queen.

You need the wand. Sadly despite it being marketed that you could be a good luck, without reading a walkthrough beforehand you wouldn’t know that by choosing the good option to break the wand you are locked out of the basement.

You couldn't just break through the wall?, maybe use arcana knowledge or perception to dispel illusion wall? you know like what RPG games do, give you options to do things.

Nope. The wand is required. Its essentially the magical key that allows entry. And required for what's down there too.

May I ask what one actually finds in the basement? I broke the wand and never knew about it.

You find the NPC who's name I can't remember that opens up the Lich mythic path for you.

He's the guy the museum curator in Kenabres used to serve under.

Lots of trapped corridors, some though fights with stone golems, a bunch of scrolls and other loot, and the Lich Mythic path.

So what loot did I miss out?

I think I got some books with permanent +1 to a skill
solthusx Sep 29, 2021 @ 9:23pm
Book that gives +1 to DC on spells with Death descriptor, a familiar that gives bonuses to Stealth and Trickery, a Lesser Maximize Wand and some minor loot on the lich himself. IMO the most important thing you get by going there is unlocking the Lich path (plus the XP from all the fights in there).

There’s at least 3 books there that gives permanent passive abilities.

I was playing a Dhampir and broke the wand, there's some cool unique dialogue and it was a really rad moment as I had all the undead fascinated around me and I snapped that ♥♥♥♥. Wouldn't trade it for loot. If you're good, snap that ♥♥♥♥. Sometimes you sacrifice loot for character.

I looted everything down there and didn't get a book which gave extra DC on anything, I also read all of the books that I found down there (because I know stat books exist).

I haven't actually found a stat boosting book at all in the game so far.

How do they work? Is it just having them in your inventory or reading them or do you need to eat them like potions?

There are even such books in chapter one... how can you missed them when you came across libraries... you need to read them properly. Right click from inventory and hit info to open up the pop up window. And the one referred to differ from those consumables which increases stats. Those books with passive boni can be read multiple times. But you get the bonus only once. Once you read them you see the boni in your character sheet with the title of the book and the bonus. You can safely drop/sell the books after.

Also, there is a log notice whenever you learn something new from a book.
