Use a different general.
The crusade mode works on the same principles as the party based combat - so there are counter units for undeads. And those are available pretty early. Hint: clerics.
+1
Go back to Bannerlord! :) Just messing with you.
The crusade system could be better, but if you take the time to build up your troop strength it gets pretty easy. Lots of archers are the key to keeping undead from being a problem(actually, lots of archers is the key to almost everything). Hold them in place with infantry in the middle of the board and blow them away with archers from the back row. If the enemy commander cast a debuff on them, counter it by casting something that buffs their attack.
Oh please. There's hardly anything to master. There's obviously a lot of people who don't play it right, but then "getting good" at it is pretty thankless because at no point does it actually get fun or engaging. It's just a shallow husk of the much better games its trying to emulate.
What seems easy for one is "hard" for others. Just imagine if this crusade mode has a more sofisticated mechanic - people would go [even more] nuts.
I guess i must be the only person in the world that actually like the crusader side of the game. I'm not saying it's perfect, but i find it makes a nice break from constant dungeon crawling. Once you figure it out it's not really hard, though there are a few enemy units that i think need to be nerfed a bit (damage from swarms, and it's too easy for lillitu and succubi to take control of your units).
As a tactical battle system, even a mini-game, this one is embarrassing. It couldn't be any less tactical than it actually is, and a lot of the mechanics (like hospital spam) are poorly tested, poorly balanced and plain old boring.
If you've ever played ANYTHING like Wrath's Crusade battles before (ie. Heroes, Disciples, King's Bounty) you'd know that this is a complete faceplant.
If I need a "break" from dungeon crawling, I would rather play almost literally anything than this debacle.
I like it. It's just challenging enough that occasionally you need to use some strategy to overcome difficult fights, while simultaneously being simple enough that you don't have to go out of your way to learn a new type of game (which I'd be fine with, but obviously a lot of people not so much). Meanwhile, it allows for some breaks in between the constant party fights which makes both sides more enjoyable.
I actually missed it in Act 4.
You're welcome to your opinion. Frankly it reminds me of the systems from some of the old console conquest games like Temujin. I freely admit it's not great, but when you take into consideration that it's just a mini game within an RPG it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.
Same - I like the crusade mode a lot.
Playing a pathfinder game from Owlcat is also about the management part. If one doesn't like that he/she/it should stick with other crpg games. Fortunately there are plenty of those around these days.
