Fear effects are absurd.
Fear is ungodly stupid in this game even compared to most of the other balancing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, if half the party fails one you automatically have to reload more or less unless you get really lucky. Not even having well over 20 Will stat will help you as all the high level enemies have nearly 40DC that you need to pass...every round or be faced with a loading screen.

I can deal with 60 AC Playful Darkness, but these fear throws are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ retarded.

You should see Baleful Polymorph on Unfair - without a Cleric, like an 85% chance to reroll :)

Just gotta have a character sit far away from combat doing nothing but responding to status effects in order to clear stuff like that effectively. For me, that was Daeran with Remove Fear and later Joyful Rapture. After I got the Azata ability that instantly clears fear and makes you immune to it, it basically became a non-issue. I find things like Wild Gaze (Which is basically an instant TPK if you don't expect it) much more annoying.

i guess they expect the most important party members to take rupture restraints and/or unstoppable mythic feats.

I haven't held baleful polymorph without a reload but won't the usual tricks work, like casting baleful polymorph and overwriting the present one and then dispelling the lower DC?
What really boils my blood is that Animal Servant doesn't wear off even if you kill the witch.
It leaves quite an impression on you.

As people said, need a way to remove it (and/or buff the saving throw).

But it's bugged and I think the saving throw is a bit too high. will of 30 will still fail it often - and it'll fear undead.

Take the unstoppable feat at your next mythic level. If I recall correctly, it will turn any fear status effect into shaken. Rupture restraints is good too. Shield of law, holy shield (I think?) or greater angelic aspect, I do believe, will significantly increase your saving throws against chaos/evil baddies and their nasty spell and spell-like effects. They're incidentally invaluable against certain carnivorous rocks. Aura of greater courage works wonders if your characters are tightly packed. Even the level 1 spell unbreakable heart, I do believe, goes a long way to countering fear effects. I use bless. that +1 helps. The first bard song helps a lot too if you have one of those. But mainly just respec your characters and take the unstoppable feat. You'll never get worse than shaken again.

Yeah no it's still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid, Heroic Invocation doesn't prevent it even though it says it does, Joyful Rapture also does not cure it, Remove fear will at best, remove it from one of your characters since they're all running around sometimes with Haste.

Rupture restraints is pretty useful throughout all of the game, combine with unstoppable and CC wont eat your lunch nearly as much.

Or you could play lich and take the undead companions. :D

I find it just as annoying when the enemy gets feared. It's super annoying in turn based mode. They just run away from you and drag out fights.

Indeead, it's awesome to just do mass AOE harm spells that nuke everyone else and heal your party. Also pretty sweet to travel as long as you want without anyone getting tired.

Depends on what you're being feared by.

Most of the fears people are complaining about arent magical fears, which is what most (but not all) of the spells and abilities protect against.

The Vavika-whatsits Vanguards are actually using Dazzling Display, which doesn't allow a save at all. (The DC that Dazzling Display needs to beat is based on your save number, but it isn't an opposed roll, if he beats the DC, you take the effect, period. It works the same way for you, too, though. Seelah sent Deskari running like a chicken.)

Greater heroism prevents fear effects. Great buff to have on for its other effects too.
