Best weapon type for a strength sword saint?
So, doing a strength sword saint in my next play through and am trying to decide between:
fauchards (18-20/x2 slashing with reach)
estocs (18-20/x2 piercing)
elven curve blades (18-20/x2 slashing)

These are all pretty similar, and I don't need to worry about weapon proficiency since I'll get it just by picking the weapons as my chosen weapon type. I wanted to stick to the 18-20 crit range so I could increase that to 15-20. They also all qualify for 1.5 strength damage scaling.

So what it comes down to is which of these types have the best weapons you can pick up in game? I tried checking the fextralife wiki but it seems to include kingmaker weapons along with wrath weapons so it's hard to figure out which ones are available or not. I also don't want to find there's just one good weapon in Act 5 so I spend 4 other acts with a subpar weapon.

If I'm missing something let me know.

I was looking for weapons with good crit range as I'll be playing azata with the teamwork feats you can give your whole team, so more crits means more attacks of opportunity for me and team mates.

oh my bad, if i remember drops correctly you can find great estoc and elven curve blade around act 3
fauchards i don't remember, best reach weapon if its about drops is glaive

Fauchards only really drop/can be found in the later acts, at least stronger ones than plain "+x" Weapons.

Magical Estocs and Curved Blades are available in the earlier acts, but in the later ones I only found a SINGLE Estoc, so these two might not be a longterm choice, when it comes to weapon dmg

ok, so only one good estoc late game while no good fauchards early game, so it sounds like elven curve blades seem to have a pretty good distribution throughout the game?

If you'r talking about any 2H weapon, not only sword-like type, then Greataxe. You can craft one in the beginning of the Act 3 with crit range 18-20 /x3.

If swords... idk, i don't remember much good 2H swords in the game at all. There were some fauchards. And a lot of 1H longswords.

No, I don't think I found a single magical Curved Blade late Game.
You get access to an Exotic Weapons Trader, but they only sell base "+x" variants.
Ofcourse there could be some more Estocs/Curved Blades to be found in some vendorinventorys, but I wouldn't count on that.

If it has to be these 3 I would go with the Fauchard, cuz the late game ones get really juicy with 4/7 magical effects.

i only remember one late game fauchard with +5 and that had 3 enchantments with one of them aimed for charging
but who really cares about how many good one he can find, isnt the adventage of a sword saint that he can find whatever weapon he likes and use arcane weapon to keep it viable till endgame

I found one good elven blade in act 5, one nice fauchard, and no estoc. Both of them from dungeons, not traders.

I'm using a Falcata (19-20x3) on my current unfair run, and finding it pretty good. However, it depends on how you're planning to use your SS. If you aren't making him tanky, then the reach from a Fauchard means extra safety while he attacks from behind your tanky character or summons.

Fauchard. Yes they are rare, but just transform the talking weapon to Fauchard and you are set day one. Reach is great, 18-20 is great, both is awesome

What's your party setup ?

Practically speaking Finnean can fill any weapon slots and if you upgrade him, he is one of the best weapons in the game. I woud go with Fauchard personally, reach is quite nice thing to have and 18-20 crit range is quite sweet. There are couple of good late game Fauchards to switch to when you fight undead and golems. And i think i saw one or two mid game ones.

There is a fantastic fauchard you can buy from a merchant in Act 3 if you are good-aligned.

I think you should choose a single handed weapon so you can enjoy the benefits of crane-wing and crane-riposte. I believe I used a dueling sword. It is a fine option. Estoc or scimitar would work nicely as well.

I wouldn't worry about finding good weapons of any type. With a sword saint you can use your arcane pool for weapon effects or weapon enhancements. You can also get one of your buds to cast great magic weapon too. There is also the Finnean option as carashi observed.
