And are you sure that you have the way cleared?
d.
The armies do not directly interact with your party at all, though if they discover interesting items when they defeat a demon army, the item will end up in your inventory, and any resources that they claim will also be deposited directly into your resource inventory.
As for getting to the Hellknights, you will need to have an army of sufficient power take possession of the demon fortress directly to the west of where the Hellknight spot is .
Also, Regill is a shotbird, but I can't help but respect him.

Gets alot worse in chapter 3 after you retake drezen.
(Personally) advise having a scout army just behind your main army; scouting any arrow direction that pops up. You can google walkthroughs telling you where to go but they never tell you how to get there-- the general answer if you post on steam is just "progress the story lol i've played DnD for 12 years and been divorced thrice" (ok, how?).
I honestly spent about 15 hours trying to find the route to areelus lab (4th mythic rank progression).
I would also point out that if you're a newcomer to pathfinder or the dnd-like rpg/strategy mix (I was outside of the xcom/divinity seriess)-- The game gets alot better on second playthroughs when you know what you're doing vaguely; how the numbers work and all that jazz. Might take some time but you'll get there.
