Imagine, a horse follows you in every room... sometimes I think if these dev actually know what a cRPG (especially RPG) means... very annoying this stupid horse.
You can only send it right at the enemy so it gets killed to get rid of it temporarily.
There is a work around though that helped me and sounds like a solution to your problem. Using ToyBox, you can go to the party tab and "un-recruit" your pet/mount. It won't get rid of them permanently, but it will in the area you are in. You cannot get the horse/pet or whatever back until you transition to a new area. When that happens your pet will return. Be careful and make a save backup before trying this. See if that works for you.
