Secret ending spoilers...
So apparently, if you DIDN'T SHOOT Deskari at the beggining of the game - you can't get the secret ending... great game design lol.

Why?

it is a secret ending.

You are not exspected to get this during your 1st playthrough.

What do you mean "why?"
I did everything what's required, besides shooting deskari at the beggining of the game - and that blocked me from getting the desired ending; over 80 hours wasted.
Besides, it wasn't my first playthrough.

I fail to see how this isnt a 100% on you.
ok... how did you know how to get the secret ending b/c looking up the requirements should tell you you're supposed to shoot deskari at the beginning.

I didn't look them up up until act 4, when I was curious whether to give the book to the demon lord or not

well, during dialog with Areelu and stuff you find in her lab, talks with the Suture etc, you can kinda figure out what that crossbow respresents.

Sure, it sucks if that's the only thing gatekeeping you, but....any secret ending in any game has certain points where choosing A instead of B blocks the ending.
Fun fact : ever wondered why the hero was able to damage descari ? Hint : the bolt was reflected and got stuck in the plaza wall you can pick it up. Somebody is doing stuff :D

Yeah well, what I found out is that you need like 5 out of 7(?) options to "talk her over", but apparently, if you didn't shoot that damn bolt - you can't even present the rest of arguments; it goes straight to "welp, seems like I can't convince you" as the only option which is odd, almost like a bug...

Think that's bad, try having it blocked cause you picked a good option dialogue and that's enough to block you. Least the crossbow makes a lot of sense once you played the game once and know about the midnight bolts. Some arbitrary dialogue choice in what seemed like at the time to be a pointless conversation is far more annoying. But getting the secret ending on your first playthrough without a guide is nigh impossible anyway due to all the little steps that needs to come together for it.
Kurosu 25. Sep. 2021 um 11:36
If it is your first playthrough you are not meant to do it ( well unless if you use a guide obviously )

If it is a non-first playthrough you follow the steps. Which you didn't ( one of them at least)

So I fail to see how this is a game design issue. Besides you dont even need to shoot him! you need 5/7 on the dialogue.

The "hard checks" are the number of crystals and the date.
It’s almost like they WANNA keep it secret….

Why would someone that just ran to save himself when everyone around him is dying get to ascend to godhood, there's also an in game explanation, also secret endings in games usually have arbitrary checks, weird thing to complain about.

I did all the steps besides shooting Deskari, when I found out about secret ending I was already in act 4 - but I did all the steps from previous acts regardless, besides the first one apparently; alas, according to the guide you only need 5 out of 7 arguments to sway Areelu to your side - one of those arguments is "I shoot deskari".

Do they though? When you kinda know how things will go down ever since act 3 starts? I mean, reading the desriptions of feats you get is enough of a tease like "master of death" or whatever it's called which allows you to "bestow spells upon your followers, like gods do".
Fluff 25. Sep. 2021 um 11:47
You can get secret ending without shooting Deskari. As mentioned above you need 5 out of 7 choices made correcntly. Shooting is only 1 out of 7. It's the easiest one though, so helps if you miss any other choice.
