Use Daeran with Red Salamander and Hellfire Ray.
He can be feared (relatively easily, actually, the DC was so low that i could only fail it on a 1-3, which i did, twice in a row) with Demoralize/Dazzling Display if you have Thug 3's special ability, which takes him out of the fight and gets you free pew pew time and you can spam that on him.
It was tough, but the ghost that is in this zone with one of the side quests (finding someone lost) was WAY tougher, what with a massive AC - even touch - and casting 8th and 9th level spells.
Again, though, just... why is everyone so obsessed with Core?
Is it just the misimpression that its Tabletop accurate? It isnt. Its almost twice as hard as Tabletop. Or more.
